Applying Patches

Is it ok to apply patches to remote POs and agents before doing the MTA? I have the MTA and main PO running on Linux in my corporate office, running 8.0.2 HP 3. I have POs and agents running on separate Netware servers running 8.0.2 HP 3 in remote offices. I would like to apply 8.0.3 HP1 to the remote offices and then do the corporate location. Main reason being I can do the remote offices during the day and I will need to do the corporate office after hours. Does anyone see a problem with this path?

Re: Applying Patches

Hi,

You cannot update a PO until such time as it's owning Domain has been upgraded. You cannot upgrade a secondary Domain until such time as the Primary Domain has been upgraded.

So to answer your question.... YES I see a problem with what you are recommending.

Note the difference between update and patching. Updating to a full new
release (e.g from GW8 to GW2012) follows your rules. Patching within the
same major GW version does *usually* not though, unless specifically
stated in the patch.

It is good practice to patch the primary first, then domains than POs,
but it's not technically required.

Re: Applying Patches

Thank you for the correction Massimo - I was always under the impression that even a patch had to be done top down. I've had disasters trying to do it any other way even with minor patches.
