Auto Reply Rule

So I have a Rule setup for a user that I just moved to a new postoffice. The rule is to auto-reply to any new message that comes in with the old email address (which is now a nickname within GroupWise) with a message telling what the new address is.

Seems like the rule only executes upon the first instance of a message. Example: if abc@gmail.com emails the old address, it executes the rule. If the same abc@gmail.com account sends a separate new message to the same old address, the rule is not executed. Is this by design? Does GroupWise only execute the rule once per unique incoming email address?

Re: Auto Reply Rule

Hi,

Rule looping is disabled by default for GroupWise rules. Hope that answers your question.

So if I understand correctly, the rule will only run once per unique sender (email address)? If abc@gmail.com sends two unique messages, only the first message will activate the rule?

If the rule contains just a reply, and no other requirements, yes.

If you want the rul to execute every time, add a requirement that if
subject contains "*". That evaluates always as yes, but stops the one
reply per email sender logic.

Yes. This is in part to prevent message looping as rule forwarding has
this tendency to changing the message enough that GroupWise can't be
sure it is part of a loop or something else completely different. And
many people want to be able to just send a bunch of messages with being
nagged with the rule in question.
Some finer granularity of control for this would be nice, so this is a
good suggestion for https://ideas.microfocus.com/MFI/novell-gw where a
number of us would vote for if posted back here.
