Can I send an appoitment to an Outlook user

What happens if someone sends an appointment to a number of GroupWise users
here at our company and a few Outlook users that work at other companies?

Do they just receive an email, or do they receive an appointment that they
can accept?

Thanks

You have to check the ical service enabled on your GWIA "SMTP/MIME" setting

Re: Can I send an appoitment to an Outlook user

Cool. I thought that only converted inbound Outlook appointments so we could add them to our GW calendars. I didn't realize it converted our outbound GW appointments so Outlook users could add them to their calendars.
Didn't that used to be the case? The only thing I could find was a 2009 TID for GW 8 that said GW appointments were converted to mail messages when they reached an Exchange server. I had hoped it had changed since then. I'm trying desparately to cling to GW and getting a lot of push to move to Exchange/Outlook. No specific reasons other than "everyone else is using Outlook."

I think in GW8 there was a /imip switch for the GWIA to send CAP messages.

As far as everyone is using Exchange all I have to say is does anybody remember the Melissa Virus, also every thing I see is that Microsoft is moving to the cloud and forcing everyone else to as well.

I was talking to someone recently who stated he would be scared to
host email internally anymore. He is using Microsoft's hosted
email...I assume maybe Office 365. I'll just keep running GroupWise
on my servers.

KeN Etter sounds like they 'said':

So my response to KeN's comment is...

We may be next on the list to 'move to the cloud'. I really hope we
don't. TPTB here will look to us for a recommendation as over the next
5 years pricing is quite comparable, but I have a feeling the
decision's been made in our dept and I will be on the losing side. 😞

Hi,

Just beware of something... you may tick and enable this service on your GWIA just fine and it will be working perfectly. Upgrade your GroupWise system and auto-magically the service occasionally decides to disable itself. So, double-check that iCal is enabled on your GWIA should you ever do any sort of upgrade.

Cheers,
Laura Buckley

I had read about that the day after you posted this. We actually did upgrade
to R2 on Friday, May 6. I looked and our check mark survived the upgrade.
