Cannot change From when replying

[Originally part of a discussion in the Admin Forum but moved here as looks like a Client specific issue]

Users have full proxy rights to a Workgroup mailbox. When logged in as themselves they can write a NEW mail and change the From field to the Workgroup address. Mail then goes out as if sent from the Workgroup mailbox and has the Workgroup address in the Reply-To field. But when REPLYING to mail that originally came in to the workgroup address it is not possible to change the From field (It doesn't matter whether the incoming is in a shared folder or forwarded to the individual).

I think this was reported in GW2008 as a possible bug, has it still not been resolved or is there a workaround?

Thanks,
Joe

Apologies for the late response to your inquiry.

I am not aware of a workaround. This is an issue for GW 8 as well as the latest 2012 as far as I can tell. I'll ask.

Re: Cannot change From when replying

I've reported it as a bug. Would be helpful if others do too - it gets increasingly difficult to defend the use of GW to a management who take a M$ centric view of the world, particularly when they see these bugs not fixed year after year. It seems a trivial one yet it stops people doing their jobs the way they find comfortable, and THAT can rapidly build a business case to change.

Re: Cannot change From when replying

Hi Laura,

#10857717337

Today I had a notification that the "feature is working as designed" and an enhancement request has been submitted to engineering. This is great as long as it sees the light of day again! I must admit I'm puzzled by the mind set of the designer - to allow a proxy to send a new mail on behalf of another account but not to permit sending a reply on their behalf (given full proxy rights).

Regards

Likely this is the result of two very separate decisions being made,
possibly by different individuals at very different times. This is one
of the challenges of any application that takes multiple developers.
