Changing folder icons and other 2014 interface issues

I totally disagree with the following statement in the manual: "A modern layout and large, easily identifiable icons make features, resources, and folders more discoverable and intuitive".

Icons are NOT more easily identifiable, I can't find anything in my (pretty big) folder structure anymore. The folder icons are a pain most of all, not even to mention the colors (changing theme doesn't matter). I want to change them, preferably back to what they were in 2012. But so far i haven't found a solution. Is there any way i can change this?

We've installed the new client at our IT department first, and soon want to upgrade our 300 clients as well. As I am supporting them I'm expecting many complaints about the new interface. Most of our users have bigger folder structures in their mailboxes than I have, and I already hate the new interface due to the bad choices that were made in the new interface design. I'm expecting dozens of calls about this so would like a solution beforehand.

Also now I have to mouse-over the folder list to see which folders can expand, full overview of my folders and sub-folders is totally gone. Any way to enable this permanently?

And there is many more useless changes which in my opinion make the interface worse. Like the compose and read email windows, especially the headers.

Anyone able to help? Are there possibilities at all besides novell.com/enhancements ?

I don't follow, what change makes it hard to find things in your
folder structure?

I unchecked Use GroupWise Color Schemes and that gave me the look I
was after.

I didn't get any complaints here so maybe it won't be as bad as you
expect.

Never noticed that until you mentioned it. Had to try it out to see
what you meant. Good or bad, that type of responsiveness seems to be
common anymore, so I didn't even notice that they expand arrows were
only visible on mouse-over.

What do you mean by headers? If you are referring to the space above
the message body, I like the reduced area. Most of the time I only
need to enter To and Subject. For users that also wanted the CC and
BC visible, I told them to click the sidebar, choose Show From/Cc/Bc
and make the desired options sticky. Works great and gives users more
choices. Everyone here is happy with it.

The new enhancement request portal does offer more feedback. So if
you want a change and post it there you can see whether anyone else
agrees and votes with you. Other than that, you can ask about
specific issues here and someone may be able to help.

Re: Changing folder icons and other 2014 interface issues

Hi Ken,

Thanks for the quick reply. I've found the setting to permanently enable the CC/BCC etc. field. So this question has been answered.

To go back to the other issues the following:
- The folders are an annoying blue color which almost blends into the background. Changing theme has no resolution to that, changing the color of the icon per folder isn't an option for us. No contrast whatsoever.
- I and my colleagues have a lot of folders with literally hundreds of sub-folders which I expand/collapse to my necessity at that moment in time. When not using mouse-over or selecting something inside the folder list first, it is not possible to see which have sub-folders. Same issue goes when using the scroll bar in that area without making a selection in folder list first. Able to see collapsed sub-folders makes it much quicker to go through the structure and land at the branch I need to be at. The + which it had in 2012 used to guide me straight to the right folder, due to the lack of + sign and lack of contrast I'm spending a lot more time on navigating than i used to. See attachments 5385 and 5386 for comparison.
- The headers in read view have different fonts, different font sizes, and different font colors per line. You can change the font size and color for all (except sender field), but not for them separately. I want just black, always the same font all the same size used for all fields, especially the CC and BCC fields which now are very small. I want to know exactly who the specific information is communicated to. A.k.a. as it used to be as we handle a lot of information we need the information in one quick view. Why fix what ain't broke?! See attachment 5387 as well.

- The headers as mentioned for compose view had to do with the fields being optional. And there is actually a bug or design-flaw there as well. When using Always Enabled for CC/BCC etc but not enabling all of them, the + option to enable them later which is visible on the optional setting (or using shortcut-key) are disabled/hidden. So having them optional does not give a quick way of enabling them.

On a last note, unchecking the Color scheme box doesn't help a lot, definitely not enough. Not even to mention the pain colorblind people I expect to be in, whereas the colors are too close to each-others color code and might blend too much for them.

The Ideas portal at https://ideas.microfocus.com/MFI/novell-gw is a
great place to bring these up. First you search to see if someone else
has written it up, and if so you can vote on it and add comments, or if
no body has, you can write it up yourself and see how it collects
votes. We've already seen a couple of ideas get rolled into the product
with the service packs even though the Ideas portal has only been up a
few months. More slated for the more major releases on the way.

I think most of my users wuold agree with the thrust of the OP's post. Certainly the new icons and colour scheme are less clear than the old ones.

I couldn't find a similar idea yet on the product enhancement site, so I've created this one:
