Duplicate UserID External Users

I am creating External Users with the same ObjectId as real Users. This is causing POA login redirection to fail. But. This only occurring when the External Post Office is alphabetically higher than the real post office... Would anybody be able to confirm that this is working as designed and\or suggest a work around..

That is a bit of a violation of naming conventions(that need of
uniqueness), so perhaps we'd better look at what problem are you trying
to solve with those external users?

Re: Duplicate UserID External Users

Thank You Andy,

The problem I'm trying to solve relates to Migration\Decommissioning a GroupWise system I'm afraid.. I would like to use External Users to re-direct mail flow away from the real account. I would like to remove email addresses from the real account and assign them to the External account in order to send email direct the other email system via a GWIA Gateway link. The real account will just be left with address format objectid.PO@made_up.com. There should be no conflict due to non-unique email address assignments.

Using the same ObjectID allows me to present the External Users in the address book exactly the same as the Real users they are replacing during the migration period. But users still need to log into their real account in order to view their archives. Thus we have this problem when the User's real account post office is alphabetically lower than the External post office.. (ie the GroupWise Client finds the External account first in the search order when re-directing and errors with 'post office not found'.

It's the alphabetical nature of this problem that has me concerned. I feel like I'm missing something or that I may be able to find a configuration work around for it. (which doesn't involve having to rename my External PO)

Ahh, email system migrations are always just so much 'fun' no matter
what direction you go. When possible it is so preferable to do it all
in one fell swoop, but that only works on the small systems. With the
systems that are too big to do all at once, I've always aimed to have a
user being fully in one place only. I.e. Moving a full mailbox at a
time, which would have avoided the problem you are hitting.

How far in the migration process are you at this point? Is it early
enough in the process to review how you are doing the integration and
migration steps?

Well the naming violation you are hitting is those duplicate GroupWise
object IDs. How many POs are we talking about? If you could have the
clients pointing directly to the right POA. Or they may have to specify
their full GroupWise ID username.po.domain in the GroupWise login.
Akonecny.aexternal vs akonecny.oldreal and I try to login as akonecny,
then of course it will go to the aexternal PO and fail. We have to tell
the login more than just the username.

From experience and

CO_of_email.pdf
migrating away from GroupWise does not have a positive ROI, but is
really for political reasons.
