Email to two nicknames of one user

Hi,

I have a user with two nicknames. When sending one email to these two nickname-addresses (2 addresses in recipient-field), the user only gets one email. So Groupwise is merging the two incoming emails to one. How can I persuade the system to leave the two mails seperatly, so in the end the user gets two mails?

Thanks Philipp

Hi Philipp,

A nickname is not an account. A nickname is associated with an account and it will only recieve one email. Think of it this way... you have your real name and two nicknames. When someone calls you using both nicknames only one of you gets the message.

As Laura mentions, it just doesn't work that way. If you want to
receive two emails, you will need to send two emails.

Hi Laura,

I understand, but this is not the answer I hoped for 😉

I haven't tried this but it might work...
- Create a GroupWise Rule.
- Check for the presence of both nicknames.
- Copy the message into the appropriate folder (twice!).

Hi Kevin,

how can I copy an email with rules? I only see "move to a folder" or "link with a folder".

Thanks

You are correct. My bad!

My rules use move but I thought there was a copy function too.

You could make a copy using the rule if you forwarded it but you would
want to add additional conditions to make sure you don't forward the
forwarded copy.

I'm curious though... Why do you need two copies of the email?

Hi,

I will try to explain, in reality it's more than one user with two nicknames:

- I have a department with 4 (at the moment) users, they all have their own mailbox.
- They need a common mailbox for projects -> I created a resource "projects@my.domain", all 4 having full proxyrights on this box
- At the moment they have more than 20 projects, every project has a manager out of the 4 users, but the other 3 are substitutes for all projects
- Every project must have an uniqe email-address (project1@my.domain, project2@my.domain,...) and it mustbe independent of the person in the department
- My idea was to create a nickname for every project on the projects@my.domain-resource and a project-folder in the cabinet
- with rules for every projects I can move incoming emails in the assigned folder
- every projectmanager monitors his or her projectfolders
- Till this point it works as expected

Now the problem:
- external contracting entities are sending emails to the project, they are paying for (project1@my.domain for example)
- sometimes they are member of more than one project and they are sending one email to more than one project-addresses
- so my rule moves the email in the first folder, where the rule fires and the manager of the the other projects doesn't get an email in his folder -> problem

My next try is to link the email to the folder, so more than one rule can fire, but in the end I have the original email left in the mailbox and if one user reads the linked email in his box all other linked emails change the read-status 😞

Maybe I expect to much from Groupwise, but I'm open for any ideas to solve our problem...

Thx Philipp

Hi Philip,

Perhaps you would consider a software package specifically tailored for, what I understand, your requirements: https://www.microfocus.com/products/vibe/

Workspaces can be setup for each project, each project can have it's own email address, etc.

Thank you Laura, I thought of Vibe as well.

I'm entitled for Vibe, I tried it some years ago (without success, I didn't have a use case at that time), but I'm worried that there is no acceptance of new software for this case (as my colleagues indicated...). Well, that's another problem 🙂
So my hope was Groupwise. But I will think about it and talk with the people of the department.

Would it be doable to create one resource for each project?
