Find not working after upgrade

Upgraded to GW 2014 R2 on both server and client. Now, when I use the find function (upper right corner search field), the results are not consistent. If I type inn a word, name og number, the result may be missing som of the mails that should have showed up.

If I use an older client, it work as expectet.

I saw this briefly at one client for a couple users, but the issue went away after
the back end GWchecks were done and some basic maintenance was done on the PCs (Disk
Cleanup / CCleaner)

I suspect there are some translation issues with the indexes that just take some
time for the indexer to finish up after the upgrade. Make sure you indexer has
been running. If in caching or remote mode, make sure the client is left on
overnight to finish the job for the local index.

Hi Ole,

Is it newer or older mail that don't appear in the search results?

Please let us know.

Re: Find not working after upgrade

Not 100% sure, but old email dont't appear. In some of the folders I get som of the emails, but not all.

I have too investigate further before I can come up with a more accurate pattern.

Ole

BTW: What gwcheck setting should I use?

Not for this indexing. The Indexing that GWCheck points to is the
system address book management which is a different issue.

What you are looking for is covered in the docs here:

Re: Find not working after upgrade

Hi Ole,

GWCheck log files don't affect indexing but they will show you how many items per mailbox have not yet been indexed. This gives an indication of whether or not your indexing settings are keeping up or need adjusting. As Andy has pointed out, these settings are on the POA and are documented as per the link in his post.

Re: Find not working after upgrade

I've just come across a similar issue. Using the most recently released client (that I can find) 14.2.1 (11/22/2016) a user with 56000 total emails reported he wasn't getting anything when he searched using the find. advanced find or find by example. I've run multiple gwchecks including resetting his client options, reindexing his mailbox using the quickfinder configuration of the agent and tried caching the mailbox and recreating the indexes on the local system. As yet nothing has made an improvement. I'm getting ready to open a support incident. I was hoping someone else had a solution before I started down that road.

Thanks;

Re: Find not working after upgrade

Hi Rob,

Kindly let us know what build of GroupWise you are running on your servers.

Also, in the GWCheck log files did you take a look at how many "pending jobs" are listed for the user.

Looking forward to hearing back from you.

Laura Buckley

Re: Find not working after upgrade

I found a very painful solution, at least so far. The user who was yelling the loudest about his search results had configured his find results view to only show appointments and tasks. No idea how it happened of course. Interestingly enough resetting his client options didn't appear to modify the behavior. My POAs are groupwise-server-14.2.1-124014, the client build was 14.2.1.125534

Thanks all.

Re: Find not working after upgrade

Hi,

I recommend upgrading your backend to a newer version. There were bugs, at least from what I can remember, in earlier versions. Bear in mind that indexing is server side.

Please let us know how it goes.
