GMS - BES 12.5 replacement

HI

I'm posting this here not because GMS is at fault, but is the critical factor.

We continue to use GroupWise 2014R2 as our email system and also use GMS 2014.
We currently have 70+ Blackberry devices, which uses BES 12.5 for routing messages and enforcing handset polices.
As BES 12.5 can sync email with Active Sync, we use GMS to sync emails between BES and GroupWise Post offices.

Blackberry has stopped production of Blackberry handsets, also we have been informed that UEM the product which supersedes BES, cannot be used between GMS and IOS devices.

We need to swap to another handset provider and management system, but we need to be able to lock down policies AND also work with GroupWise/GMS.

It seems there are many Mobile management solutions, but we need one tried and tested to work with the existing GroupWise structure.

If not, we face the prospect of migrating to EX*******, (sorry for almost saying the E word) 😛

Thanks

You might look into ZENworks Endpoint Security Management - https://www.microfocus.com/products/zenworks/endpoint-security-management/

We have quite a few customers using that as an MDM between GW and GMS

Re: GMS - BES 12.5 replacement

Hi, We are GW2014 R2 and GMS R2 and we are using two MDM products: IBM's cloud based MAAS360 and Blackberry's cloud based BES 12 to manage our Android based Blackberries as well as our Android and IOS devices. We have also been testing VMware's Airwatch with excellent results.

None of them care (neither the MDM solution or the hand held devices) that we have GW via GMS as it appears to the mobile device as an Active-sync compatible mail server (basically the phone thinks its talking to an Exchange server). So virtually every MDM product will work for you as they simply set the mail profile and security policies. They don't care what mail server you use.

This might help as you look for new MDM solutions: http://www.crn.com/slide-shows/mobility/300087241/heres-who-made-gartners-2017-magic-quadrant-for-enterprise-mobility-management-suites.htm

Re: GMS - BES 12.5 replacement

Do you have details on why UEM and iOS wouldn't talk to GMS?

I should think UEM would just deliver the same type of email profile to
the device as BES12.x. Even if they wanted to force Exchange Gatekeeping
for exchange (perhaps via GOOD?). I don't see how they could remove
simple email profile support.

Re: GMS - BES 12.5 replacement

OK, I have better info than in my other reply.

We are running GMS 14.2.1 build 289, and are about the same size as you
with 90 BES users.

We have been a long time BES shop. I've run 4.x 5.x, 10, 12.1, 12.2,
12.4, 12.5 and now UEM. Its worth noting that 'UEM' is 12.6.x.

I just upgraded our 12.5.1 -> 12.6.3a this afternoon. I did see a pretty
fresh 12.7 out there, but the bugs I was chasing were confirmed fixed in
12.6.x, so I stopped there.

As I expected, the mail profiles continue to be applied. Delivering a
profile to the device works the very same as in 12.5.1.

For this upgrade, it seems that on iOS devices the mail profile was
removed and re-applied, triggering some help desk action for password
help. Android was unaffected. I don't have a BB10 device handy, but we
have not yet gotten a ticket for one. All devices show ok in the
management console.
