GW 18.0.1 - gwsync.exe error: "There Is No Disk in the Drive. Please Insert a Disk into Drive \Device\harddisk\Dr1"

I have updated my system to GW 18.0.1, and is now updating the clients as well.

With some users I get the error:

gwsync.exe "There Is No Disk in the Drive. Please Insert a Disk into Drive \Device\harddisk\Dr1"

after login.

If you press cancel three times it disappears, and GW works.

I know you can suppress the message with a change in registry (Computer\HKEY_LOCAL\MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Windows\ErrorCode - change to "2"), but I don't think it's the correct solution.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Sorry for the delay. Always the risk with us volunteers having our own
systems to keep running.
I would guess that you installed the client from a removable media and
that this client wants see that installation at least one more time
before it is all ready to move forward. Not the first app that has
that kind of expectation as even some versions of MS Office has that
silly "I must see my install files to change anything" problem.

Please confirm where you installed the client from.

Andy,
Just an FYI, I have seen this with a couple of PCs running 2014.
Haven't had time to figure out the problem/resolution yet. But the OP
isn't the only one seeing this.

No problem, I have time to wait 🙂

I installed the client from a mapped network drive. But the drive is mapped during the users login script, so it's always there.

Furthermore, on one of the two computers in question (so far), the error comes when I login to GW with one user name, but not with another.

The computers are fully patched Windows 7x64

Kind regards

Jens Jakob

Hi Jens,

Perhaps check the user's archive path to see if it's pointing to removable media.

Hi Laura

The path to Archive is empty.

All our users works in online mode only, and we don't use the archive function either.

Hi Jens,

Double-check all paths in the "File Locations" section of Tools | Options | Environment for anything pointing to something other than a local disk.

Also, are you using any sort of folder redirection - for example My Documents being redirected to a server?

Hi Laura

File locations are correct (default settings).

We do not redirect any folders at all. Through GPO on the AD some home folders for Office are set to the users home directory. The path to this directory is correct and alive.

I know the error is rather common, but this is the first time I've seen it in GW, and I'm reluctant to install GW 18 on all workstations until I have a solution/explanation. That said, on my four workstations GW18 is working perfectly 🙂

Re: GW 18.0.1 - gwsync.exe error: "There Is No Disk in the Drive. Please Insert a Disk into Driv

In case anyone else finds this thread...

We just had this issue as well.

If you open disk management (start, run, diskmgmt.msc),   look for a drive that is "removable", that has a drive letter attached to it., but doesn't actually have any media.

Right click the Disk # on the left hand side of the screen, and remove drive letter.

If you actually do use a SD card reader, or other similar devices that need that drive letter, go find a program called "USBDLM".  There is a setting in that utility that will attach the drive letter when media is present, and remove it when the media is removed.

Cheers.
