Global Signatures - Variables. 2014R2 or 2017?

Hi.

We are desperate withing our Group to be able to customise our signatures and we have lots of Mac users who cannot manually create pretty signatures. I read that there were going to be global variables https://ideas.microfocus.com/MFI/novell-gw/Idea/Detail/35 We need to put the users name / department / phone numbers etc.. to the right of an image, in a new signature we have been asked to make, yes we can get them to manually put this in as one signature then add a second signature below with any images we want, but it's not as neat, and not what our design team want to do.

But is this not going to happen to GW2017? whenever that is?

Failing this what else do people use for Macs etc to give them good signatures. They need to be different for each user... So one Global signature would not work. Do some of you have a lot of individual global signatures or use something else sitting in front of groupwise to add the signature, or just settle for plain signatures.

We don't use Macs, so not sure if this helps or not. But I created a
page on our company intranet that users go to that automatically
creates their signature based upon info in the company database. Then
they just copy/paste from that page into the GroupWise signature
window. Everyone is required to use that page to generate their
signature - which gives us the consistency we want.

Thanks Ken.

It's not really going to help with the Macs, but it's worth thinking about this as a different idea. We could at least then get them to generate the .sig even if we have to add it manually at the po for the mac users only.

I haven't seen a confirmation that it will be included in GW2017, just
that it is being looked into for it. From what I've heard, GW2017 is
targeted for the later half of this year.

One option might be to have the users add the sig to their ID in
WebAccess, though if that doesn't do the trick, then you are at the
limits of the particular client until the new feature is available. It
wouldn't be out of order to add your vote to that Idea if you haven't
already. Every vote adds to the weight of need, therefore encouraging
the development team to make it happen, to overcome any obstacles there
may be to such a feature.

Re: Global Signatures - Variables. 2014R2 or 2017?

Thanks Laura I had voted on one, but not the second so i've done that now. It says planned. So maybe 2017...

But I am fast running out of ideas, our marketing department wants us to change everyones signature to a pretty one, including all our Mac users and we are struggling so badly.

It needs the template as per the second request above to go with x images. I hate to turn around and say no we cannot do this our technology doesn't allow it. Would GWAVA Vertigo be able to do this? or is there any other solution other users buy that sits in front of their Groupwise system that can do it. Like an Anti-Spam server that will happily talk to eDirectory and allow us to put different signatures based on a template using the users LDAP Details as their variables?

Re: Global Signatures - Variables. 2014R2 or 2017?

Hi,

GWAVA is now owned by Micro Focus and there are some interesting developments happening in this space. I do not know if this is how they plan for variables in signatures or not. The "old" Vertigo would allow signature variables using the old NGW-xxxx variables which are no longer used in GroupWise 2014 and above. Having said this, take a look here:

https://www.gwava.com/groupwise-mailbox-management

Says that signature management is possible but doesn't mention variables at this point. Perhaps use the "contact us" option and ask directly?

At this point I'm not sure what to suggest further 😞

Cheers,
