mostly Word and Excel files

If i'm informed correctly, wait for the migration tool that migrates
your docs from gw to vibe.

Re: Going from GW 8 on Netware to GW 2012

from what I've seen here it could be end of the year!

I think...

Would like to move before then - out Netware Server is dying (crashes
several times a week!)
and low on disk space...
its ancient well its 6+ years old.

Re: Going from GW 8 on Netware to GW 2012

Try the demo of my program, Docrevue. Quite a few people have used it
successfully to export entire GW libraries.

Re: Going from GW 8 on Netware to GW 2012

Bit late... may be if Vibe 3 included migration for GW DM
I would have respect for Novell this looks like its and after thought....

our consultant told us Vibe is OTT - our 2-3 of guys devoted a WHOLE week
looking into this
cost a packet

Might be great for lots of sites and hundreds of users who don't know each
other

Like most small companies our people sit in a bit room able to work and
'socialize' so don't need "Invented" software to socialize
just need good "workhorse" tools like GW DM which Novell has abandoned ....
a
along with its users

From what I've seen documents are NOT secure
-----------------
mind you I've spent little time looking at Vibe - I don't smoke weed so its
not apealing to me *** Flower Power eh? ***
May be should have called it 'Active Docs'.. wait M$ maybe got that!
Sorry couldn't resist
-----------------

I saw a video of Vibe 3 and desktop sync tool - PC's will be littered with
documents - thats a big no-no
PC's are used by others so we want documents secure

"GW DM killed ..simple and generally good but dated... needed a few tweaks
here and there "
"looks like all the Wordpefect people have moved on & Novell couldn't cut
it - keep it simple that is"
"They've just ignored our needs and created something that dosen't work ...
for us"
"Never asked us what we want" - well who does!

Hey, I'm only the IT man. I don't count
but above is generally what most of our 35 users and management think

So muggings here will ahve to find a way to get those docs out!

Re: Going from GW 8 on Netware to GW 2012

Thanks - I'll take a look

Got any suggestions for alternative DM - we are still looking!
Security and user power is a must
and despite my moan - I would have like to GW DM

Re: Going from GW 8 on Netware to GW 2012

There's a thread in the groupwise.library forum titled 'Document
Management Systems' - there's a few systems get mentioned in there. I must
get round to looking at some of them myself to see if I can do some sort
of system specific export widgets.

And I have to agree about Vibe, there just isn't anything in there, for
now at least, that I could find that handles the import from GW-DMS. There
just isn't a Library mechanism at all, so no librarian, no custom fields,
no global search. It's just a file store, there's no real 'management'
side to it.

I know the guys at Worldox use Docrevue with their migrations from GW.
Also people have migrated to Opentext, and a few other systems that I
can't recall off the top of my head.

Cheers Dave

How so?

Don't use Vibe Desktop, then. This can be disabled in the Vibe system.
Doesn't mean that docs within Vibe aren't secure.

Re: Going from GW 8 on Netware to GW 2012

Wouldn't it be easier to migrate the entire thing to an OES11 server first and when you're done doing that and have a stable server and system again think about moving out the docs from DMS?

Re: Going from GW 8 on Netware to GW 2012

Moving DMS across to a Linux server can be tricky if you have the
documents stored in an external storage area. It's not too much of a
problem if you are storing documents under the post office.

Cheers Dave
