GroupWise 2012 Post Office crashes.

2 of 5 post offices crash randomly. 1 PO is on an entirely different server and network. The POs started crashing after we upgraded to GroupWise 2012. Both POs run on SLES v. 10 fully patched. 1 of the POs runs in a clustered environment and other POs on the same server stay running when the problem PO crashes. The other problem PO is on a dedicated server along with the MTA and domain. I have run GW maintenance through ConsoleOne on both POs. I have renamed the wpcsin & wpcsout from postoffice directory and the ngwcheck.db files and ran maintenance from ConsoleOne. The issue still remains. Below is from the messages log and is the common error that is received when the POs go down. Any help would be appreciated.

English is what we use primarily, but we installed "gw12.0.0_full_win_multi".

Re: GroupWise 2012 Post Office crashes.

In this case I will not help. sorry.
We use additional language: Russian
(Post Office Language: ru)

GW Datasync and GW WEBACCESS work with this POA over SOAP.

After rename in the
1)
/opt/novell/groupwise/agents/bin
*ru.fil -> *ru.fil_bcp
2)
/opt/novell/groupwise/agents/lib
*ru.fil -> *ru.fil_bcp

All Ok. But this is in my case..

There are several known issues with crashing POA's. Make sure you'll be able to send a core dump and supportconfig to Novell, open an SR and they can provide you with an updated build in which the crashing should occur much less frequently.

Hi ellisck
I get the same thing on one post office - have you had any resolution?

As mentioned by bpenris, please open an SR.

Re: GroupWise 2012 Post Office crashes.

emilym

I can predict when my POs will crash each day. I also noticed that if I restart the POs that crash at a certain time, lets say 12 noon, they will crash the next morning at around 6:45 AM. So, I created a cron job to automatically restart the POs in question once every 12 hours. So far my POs have stayed up and running without issue. The tech working on my SR wanted me to capture the core file on the servers that host the POs, however I am choosing to wait to see if the issue gets corrected after applying 2012 SP1. I hope you can use the info above in your case.

thanks,

Re: GroupWise 2012 Post Office crashes.

SR#10759652221...please note that it was my choice to not follow recommendations made by the tech. He wanted to pull the core file causing the crash. The POs were not crashing before the upgrade from ver.8 to GW 2012. All other recommendation that the tech made were performed and the issue still remained.

thanks,

In looking at the audit history of your SR, a core was asked for on May 6th and again on the 27th. Unfortunately without that core there won't be much more we can do. Make sure you follow the information in tid 3447847 to make sure that it will generate the core file the next time it crashes.

Re: GroupWise 2012 Post Office crashes.

Kory,

First off, you ALWAYS want to rig the server so that WHEN the POA or any other processes crashes, a core is automatically created. This causes no disruption in addition to that which you are already experiencing. Its not like the NetWare days where the whole system explodes when you dump core.

Second, you want to rig your server so that it will restart the GW agent which dies so that user impact is reduced / eliminated. Our POA will die infrequently, but when it does, it restarts in 30 seconds. Most users never notice anything except a short hiccup.

Once you do this, then you can harvest your cores using the novell-getcore utility. This will package up and analyze the core for Novell.

While I think Novell Support is generally pretty decent, they are not clairvoyant. Getting a core to your SE, when they ask for it, is sort of essential to the process. ( And some times even when they don't ask for it. )

Also the bundled core produced by novell-getcore contains a gdb analysis which includes a stack walk - so very much like the NetWare style ABEND.LOG which can be used to see if there is a common signature to the crash, or if its something new.
