Richard,

I also use ZCM to install the GroupWise client and it is working fine.
Here are my notes, maybe compare them to what you did and you can find
something you missed.

Ken

preliminary setup steps

* run c:\gwtemp\groupwise\server\win64\setup.exe /extract
c:\gwtemp\gwserver
(this gets all the server files - needed for setupip.fil)

* run as secure system user
install files to c:\zcm\gw2014r2-sp1
(located in c:\gwtemp\gwserver\novell\groupwise
server\agents\data\client\setup\win32)
extract_setupip_packs.cmd
setupip.fil
setupip.en
* do not compress or encrypt
* run as secure system user

Ken,

This part is confusing me. When I extract setup.exe from gwtemp\gwserver\win64\setup.exe, it does not contain the "extract_setupip_packs.com", "setupip.fil", or "setupip.en" files. Where did you get them?
Previously, I had go to the <GW Server>\Program Files\Novell\Groupwise Server\agents\data\client\setup\win32 folder to get those. I am not sure if my bundle isn't working because of where I sourced those files from or not.

Thanks,

Chris

Nevermind. I did not read closely enough. I used 7-zip to extract setup.exe. I DID NOT use the command prompt to run the command "setup.exe /extract c:\gwtemp\gwserver" from the C:\gwtemp\groupwise\server\win64 directory.

Sorry for the confusion.

Chris,

I have done this multiple times. Most recently in January 2017 with
an R2 SP2 FTF file, so I know the same procedure still works.

Are you starting with a ...full_win_multi.zip file? You need to use
the Windows Full Multilingual, not the Windows Client Multilingual.
The latest released version would be gw14.2.1hp2_full_win_multi.zip,
not gw14.2.1hp2_client_win_multi.exe.

If you extract that zip to C:\gwtemp, then you should be able to run
this:
c:\gwtemp\groupwise\server\win64\setup.exe /extract c:\gwtemp\gwserver

which will give you this:
c:\gwtemp\gwserver\novell\groupwise
server\agents\data\client\setup\win32

which should contain these three files (among a bunch of others):
extract_setupip_packs.cmd
setupip.fil
setupip.en

Does that help any?

No problem! Glad you got it sorted out!
