GroupWise edir objects have been lost in a crash

I apologise about this not quite being gw 2012 issue (since the system is
gw8) but I think this issue may be version agnostic.
I've been called in to help on in a perfect storm an old single NetWare GW 8
system where the ds was stuffed beyond fixing. I had to remove and reinstall
the eDirectory. They have a backup with old backup exec but any restore
fails with insufficient privileges. To cut to the chase I am having to
basically rebuild the directory and I am wondering what the best way is to
recreate their GW objects ithout losing the mail.

So, the mail and dom directories are intact. The DS objects are missing. Is
this a create a new GW system and then graft? Or is there some other way.

thanks

Thomas

Hi Thomas,

To graft your GroupWise system back into an eDirectory tree you could follow this TID: https://www.novell.com/support/kb/doc.php?id=7004121

I know that the TID is old, but it is still relevant for GroupWise 2012.

Please do let us know how it goes and if this is of any assistance to you.

Cheers,

Re: GroupWise edir objects have been lost in a crash

Thanks for this.
I've taken a look at through this. I am not clear about the first part.

Its states: "Copy the GWDOM.DC and GWPO.DC files either from another
working domain directory or from the Domain directory in the Software
Distribution Directory to the directory of the domain you wish to connect
to"

Can I not just point the domain at the existing DC files in the domain
directory? The directory and PO folders are intact. DO need to copy new DC
files into the existing Domain directory and overwrite existing?

thanks

Hi Thomas,

I don't think that you need to copy the .dc files if your existing file system is totally in tact - I think that's just precautionary if you have copied/moved the data to a new server.

Please let us know how it goes.

Re: GroupWise edir objects have been lost in a crash

Hi there

All good now. Well the mail is. Thank you for your help. It worked out mostly quite well.
I wish the files system rights had worked out as well but I'll post that issue on the Netware forum.

It was quite nostalgic working on that Netware box. 😉

cheers
Thomas

Re: GroupWise edir objects have been lost in a crash

Hi Thomas,

Unfortunately file system rights are not stored in the GroupWise databases - for obvious reasons. You can recover GroupWise accounts and objects using the method posted, but that's about it.

I'll head on over to your other thread and see if I can be of assistance there 😉

Cheers,
