Groupwise 8.0.1 client update problem

I have an odd problem and wonder if anyone else has experienced this.

The IT dept has Vista 64 bit machines and all the machines are constantly prompting to update groupwise even after its already been updated. I cannot duplicate this problem on our XP desktops, its only happening on the Vista 64 bit desktops.

Is there some registry key thats checked on startup to see if the client needs to be updated? We've tried installing again by clicking "yes" to the update, weve tried rebooting, the update message keeps coming every time GroupWise is run.

Thanks,
-Tom

More likely it's not getting access to the registry to write the yes or
no. Hence you keep getting it.

Doesn't this have something to do with Software Distribution Directory
Management?

Nope....seems more like a rights problem on the local workstn.

You'll need to be a local admin for this to work, in order to update
the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Novell\GroupWise\Client\5.0\NewSoftwareBump

So if the Admin bumped the SoftwareBuild number, then this is indeed a
req.

Yes, thats exactly what happened. The first software distribution attempt read the wrong configuration file so I bumped the build number by 1 in order to get it to properly deploy.

I just changed the registry key NewSoftwareBump to match the value in the SDD client directory software.inf but even with both at 4531 the client is still prompting me to update? Is there something else that needs to be changed?

Thanks!

Re: Groupwise 8.0.1 client update problem

Correction "even with both at 4351" not 4531.

Re: Groupwise 8.0.1 client update problem

I changed the value of NewSoftwareBump to 13 and the update message has gone away. Changing the value for BuildNumber also fixes the issue.

Thanks,

Re: Groupwise 8.0.1 client update problem

Next time you have an issue with autoupdate, you can disable it by
looking at the file named <SDD>\client\software.inf

Put a simmicolon in front of the line named BuildNumber=XXXX

Then restart the POA

Re: Groupwise 8.0.1 client update problem

This might be unrelated but I don't know where to post it. We upgraded about 100 users Desktops/laptops from GroupWise 8.0.1 SP1 to GroupWise 8.0.1 SP1 HP1. The upgrade when fine however on about 10-15 users PC, the printer driver for the HP LaserJet 4250, HP LaserJet 5035 MFP and HP Laserjet 4250 DTN got corrupted and we had to re-install the driver. After the upgrade when they try to print, it display a message you must install a printer driver before you can print. We had other printer installed on the same computer and those other work fine. Any suggestion what might cause this.

Re: Groupwise 8.0.1 client update problem

No matter what, please start a new thread, since this has nothing to do
with updating a client, but more about problems afterwards....

AFWIW...I beleave it's unrelated
