Groupwise auto recognize first.last@domain.com?

By accident I discovered our Groupwise system will accept mail addressed to first.last@domain.com. All of our addresses are configured as first initial followed by last name and then the domain. So mine would be msnyder@mydomain.com. However if you send it to mike.snyder@mydomain.com it is still delivered without any issues. Is that a feature of GW?

GroupWise supports a number of Internet Addressing formats. From the GroupWise view in ConsoleOne select Tools->GroupWise System Operations->Internet Addressing and the select the Addressing Formats tab to see which address formats are allowed. Address formats can also be overridden the domain, post office and user under Internet Addressing. The Internet Addressing page on a user also has a 'View EMail Addresses' button which will display allowed EMail Addresses, Nickname EMail Addresses and Gateway Alias EMail Addresses.
