Implement LDAP sync (AD) as an afterthought?

Hi,
Simple question probably, but basically since migrating from Novell NetWare (yes!) we ran GroupWise as a standalone directory (GroupWise's own directory).
All our users have an AD account, then a separate GroupWise account with the same user ID.

The question is, can I implement LDAP (AD) sync / integration so that users are managed and created in AD only, WITHOUT breaking anything that already exists? Will GroupWise accounts or data for those accounts (name, ID, any other details such as phone number, title etc) be lost if I setup a sync this far down the line?

Because the data we need is primarily for GroupWise purposes (ie address book), it's not likely that AD currently has much details for the users, maybe not even email address for example. If I sync now, will LDAP (AD) overwrite GroupWise?

Thanks, Alan

Hi Alan,

You can associate GroupWise users with existing LDAP user accounts. Perhaps this points you in the right direction:

You can also use the GW MMCPlugin to create GW users as you add them to Active directory. Documentation is:

Thanks for the replies. It turns out it doesn't really break anything, and it's as simple as just setting it up. I suppose I was concerned because when we did Edir and AD syncing, it was a very different story, with one directory winning etc.
