Install GMS onto same GroupWise server

For an environment with less than 10 users, can GMS be installed on the same server hosting the GroupWise services given SLES-11 x64 sp3?

Problem is that both GMS and Webacc will use port 443, but you *should*
be ale to run them on separate IP addresses. Have not tested though.

The question should not be if it "could" but rather, "should". In my experience GMS is very disk and resource intensive. I would NOT install it with anything else...but of course your mileage may vary...but I would test things very carefully.

Re: Install GMS onto same GroupWise server

Hi,

I am of the opinion that GMS should be thought of, and treated like, an appliance type server/service.

So NO, I would never put anything else on a GMS box - but that might just be me 😉

As others have pointed out, you probably could if you bind multiple IP
addresses and make sure that WebAccess and GMS use specific IPs.
However, this configuration isn't officially supported. What I'd
recommend instead is to use VMware ESXi (the free version) on the box,
and then have the GW system on one VM and GMS on another VM.

That is what I would do as well.

Hi,

+1 for spinning up two VMs.

GroupWise and GMS work very well in this type of setup. I have several customers with this configuration.

As have I. Keeping them separate makes life a lot easier. No needto
bounce GW when you update GMS etc.

Re: Install GMS onto same GroupWise server

Hello,

I'm agree with all reply, with virtualization, better to no install on the same box

The only thing I already do, is putting Web access and GMLS on the same Server, to have them in a same box on the DMZ, in this case, I use same IP address, but a port different than 80 and 443 for the Web access.

Last thing, for 10 users, no need of heavy disk acess ressources

hoping it can help you
