Messenger 3.0. Programmatically Send Broadcast Message?

Re: https://www.novell.com/documentation/novell_messenger30/

Is there a way we can send a broadcast message either from the server or a client either through command line or API? I am unable to locate this in the documentation. We are interested in broadcasting building safety notices, etc.

Hi Kevin,

I'm not aware of any way to accomplish this natively with Messenger, but let me see if I can find any possible solutions for you.

There is a way, albiet not very clean. Messenger includes a handler for browser integration, but it also works on the command line. It is doc'd here: https://www.novell.com/documentation/nm2/nm2_client/data/bs3p66t.html

As you'll see, there isn't anything listed for broadcast handling. However, I just used this nim:systembroadcast?message=text and it worked.

Hi Rand,

Learning all the time 🙂 I did not know that this is possible. Thanks so much for sharing.

At some point we'll have to bug Novell for a real API for the server, but after exploring this a bit we just might be able to hack something together to use this for now.

Thanks, Rand.
