Migrate from GW 6.5 to 8

Is there a GroupWise Server Migration Utility for the versions stated above?

We have GW6.5 running on NW 6.0 and want to update to GW8 on a Windows 2008 Server.

Can you tell me where to get or buy a utility to do the purpose?

Thanks for any help.

I'm trying to find out if the existing migration utility also works for
GW8 or if it's going to be updated.

You'll have to do that manually as the migration utility is only for
moving to Linux.

No utility for this. You have to first either upgrade and then move, or
move and then upgrade. GW 8 is not support on NetWare 6.0, so you are
better to "move" it first, and then upgrade it.

Re: Migrate from GW 6.5 to 8

Do you have a guide on this in pdf form? If you have one, where can i get it?

I also need a guide to migrate gw6.5 on Windows 2000 to gw8 on Windows 2003. I hope you have it also. Much better if i could migrate it to gw8 on Windows 2008.

Thanks for the help!

I don't specifically have a manual for moving GW from one server to another.
My GW7 Upgrade Guide had a chapter on moving GroupWise which was an
"overview" of how to do it, but it's not a step-by-step guide by any means.
I'm working on a more comprehensive moving guide, but it won't be ready til
after the first of the year.

Re: Migrate from GW 6.5 to 8

I've done this several times from GW6 on NW6 to OES2 Linux on SLES.

I copied everything manually, then ran servantsalamand (google it) to manually change the case on everything because the chcase.pl script never seems to recurse directories like it is supposed to. I put the PO/DOM files in the standard GW/Linux directories, then essentially extended the schema, created a new system, grafted the objects and installed the GW agents, etc. Make sure ConsoleOne has the new path for the DOM/PO and that the cfg files are updating, if not make the changes manually.

Before starting you change the path and make sure NCP is running, but I think that's all in the manual upgrade guide, make sure the dc files are the new ones, and make sure your.vew files are also copied from the CD/ISO file to the standard location.

Maybe it was just me, but the last BETA install ahd all kinds of issues, especially with GWCAL, I think it's flaky.

There's not much to document.

Copy domain and post offices.
Install agents.
Run agents.

I tell you what - I hate to have you purchase my GW7 Upgrade Guide just to
get the moving chapter, but I'll send you the moving chapter so you can look
it over. If it helps and you feel like it is worth paying for the guide
after that, then I'll let you pay for it <g>. But if you find that it just
doesn't help that much, that's okay too. Can you drop me an email at danita
at caledonia dot net - then I'll send it on.

I guess it would include the steps I missed about changing IP addresses
and UNC paths. 🙂
