Monitor shows status Unknown for DVA

Hi,

I tried to insert our DVA in GW Monitor, using Preferences -> Add Agents ->
Add Agent

The DVA shows up in Monitor, it is correctly recognized as DVA, and platform
and version are correctly displayed (Linux 12.0.2 (3/26/2013) - but Status
is always "Unknown".

It's not a problem of httpusername/password - if I enter this incorrectly,
the Agent does not show up in Monitor.

Access to the Web Console works fine.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Mirko

Hi Mirko

To be honest, I'm not sure if you can add the DVA to the monitor interface. Everything I've read about monitoring the DVA refers to the web console.

Let me try to find out more information for you.

Cheers,

Re: Monitor shows status Unknown for DVA

Hi Laura,

thanks for your help.

The documentation for GW Monitor does not mention the DVA explicitly, but it
says "all agents":

"GroupWise Monitor enables you to monitor the status of all agents
throughout your GroupWise system in one convenient location."

For GWHA the DVA is explicitly mentioned:

"The GroupWise High Availability service (gwha) makes sure that if the MTA,
POA, DVA, or GWIA goes down for any reason, it restarts automatically. "

Since GWHA depends on GW Monitor I thought Monitor should work with DVAs.

I tried if GWHA works anyway - it does not. If I stop the DVA, Monitor shows
correctly "Not Listening" - but the DVA will not be restarted. Strange: if I
manually restart the DVA, Monitor stays with "Not Listening", it does not
change back to "Unknown".

Thanks,
Mirko

Hi Mirko,

I'm asking around in the backrooms at Novell about this.

I'll post back when I hear back from the lads/lasses at Novell 🙂

Re: Monitor shows status Unknown for DVA

Hi Mirko,

Unfortunately this is a known bug: Bug 766218 - gwmon doesn't know about the new gwdva functionality

I'm not sure when it will be fixed 😞

Re: Monitor shows status Unknown for DVA

Hi Mirko

From what I can see it will be fixed in the next release of GroupWise, code-named Windermere.

Sorry, I know that's not much help to you right now 😞

Take care,
Laura Buckley
