New GWCheck from TID 7007206... crazy Stats

Hello,

It was looking like I was having the issue referred to in TID 7007206, so I down loaded and run the stand alone gwcheck against my PO. Below are the STATS.

It's gotten me a little nervous that I have gotten so many errors. I run GWchecks every weekend as part of the schedule maintenance process. I been working with GW since GW 4 and have never see Stats like this.

Does anyone know if this is the expected outcome from the TID 7007206 GWcheck?

Thanks for the reply.

Allen

Looks like you're doing regular Structural checks, but not regular Contents checks... - GA

We are getting the same type of result from the "updated" GWCheck. I
also noticed that if I run a standalone GWCheck against one of the user
dbs that has errors, it creates userxxx.dba and userxxx.$er files, then
on the next pass it says the files it just created are "unknown",
creating a self-perpetuating problem. Can I shut down the PO and delete
these files? I guess that's a moot point, since it will create them
again. 😞

I want to migrate my PO from NW to Linux ASAP, but I don't know if these
errors need to be resolved first.

In regards to the .dba and .$er files
Normally any time a gwcheck is run, it renames the current database to .dba, .dbb, etc. so that in case the gwcheck "hoses" the database, you can put the original one back without having to resort to tape backup/restore procedures.

To kjhurni

Well, that's only if a database rebuild is triggered - just running a
normal GWCheck won't trigger a sudden rash of additional database files <g>

Just my two cents worth, but you want to make sure that you have as many errors cleaned up as your able to do so, running the Structure checks each night, and the contents check once weekly is a very good place to start. You can also fix any errors in the indexing before you get into the planned migration phase of your project. Remember that when your migrating your GroupWise system that your wanting to perform the change case on your directory structure, NetWare uses uppercase while Linux (OES2) wants everything lowercase. I have had good success with the change case programs by febooti, and change case (google searches) I have also shut the GroupWise system down on the NetWare server before performing this step. I believe that the GroupWise Migration program from Novell works very well for this, along with using the dbcopy program and using the switches to change the case. Hope I did not get too overly wordy.
