Nicknames (Email Forwarding)

Is it possible within GroupWise 2014 to have a nickname go to more than one person? With my personal email, I can log into control panel and setup email forwarding, so I can have multiple emails coming to my one main account. I can add more than one account for that same forwarding address, so info@abc.com goes to me, my boss, my sales person, etc.

I'm trying to figure out a way to setup an alias, nickname, forward or whatever it needs to be called so that info@mydomain.com will go to more than one person. Is there a solution in GroupWise that will accomplish this?

I can setup a separate account and have all email forwarded to two addresses, but then I end up with 3 copies of every email coming in and I don't want that.

Hi,

I think what you are looking for is a GroupWise distribution group. Create the group and add members to the group i.e. multiple addresses. Take it from there.

Please let us know if you need further assistance.

Re: Nicknames (Email Forwarding)

No that will not work as those are for internal use only. I am needing a state run agency to send email to address@mydomain.com and have it go to 2 or more people. I have not been able to access distribution lists from external sources in the past. Perhaps I am just overlooking an awesome feature?

Re: Nicknames (Email Forwarding)

Just confirmed that, setup a new group for "test" and tried to email test@mydomain.com and it got rejected instantly using my personal outside email address.

Need to figure out a way an outside agency can email 2 people at the same time using GroupWise. It's possible with all other email systems I've used, so I am assuming/hoping it's possible with GroupWise. If not, perhaps this just speeds up the process to move to Office365.

Mike,

Distribution lists do work for outside email. I am using them here.
You probably need to enable it on your GWIA. Check the GWIA settings:
SMTP/MIME tab, Address handling, Inbound Settings. Make sure that
"Expand groups on incoming messages" is checked. I think that is all
you need.

Hi,

Distribution groups do work for mail being received from external sources. I use them extensively. You need to ensure that it is enabled in your GWIA settings. This "feature" has been around for a great number of years!

That is what I needed, here I have had this feature all along and never knew it! I assumed it was a setting somewhere, glad it's working now and I thank you so much! You too KeN 🙂
