Offline availability of GW network archive

Hi,

can you please assist me in setting up my GroupWise (version 12.0.1) archive folder on an Novell network while still allowing offline archive availability. The idea is to have my GW archive on 2 laptops both directed to the same folder on the network, while also having the archive available on both laptops while offline. Any suggestions?

If this is not possible, is there at least a way of setting up an auto backup of my archive from the my local hard drive to a network folder?

Thanks in advance

Yes: Forget it. Forget Groupwise archiving, setup caching mode on both
laptops, and leave all your data in your live groupwise mailbox.

Re: Offline availability of GW network archive

Thanks for the quick response. Firstly the caching mode option is greyed out in my GroupWise and I therefore assume this mode is restricted by the administrator/my company. Secondly I'd need additional live mailbox space, and lots of it. My current archive is about 15 Gig. Would that be possible to un-archive all of this?

It would be a great solution though, because this way I'd have access to all old emails even through WebAccess from any computer with an internet connection.

Thanks again and hoping you can assist further.

Re: Offline availability of GW network archive

Further to the above, my live mailbox is restricted to 1 Gig and I therefore had to turn on auto-archiving. I thus don't think I'm going to get away from archiving.

As an alternative, would it be possible to set up a network folder that is automatically synchronized with both laptops' local archive folder? If only the windows 'Offline Availability' option was available on a Novell network drive this would have been easy, but it's not. Do you think this is a viable alternative, and if so, how should I go about setting it up?

Thanks again.

Yes, that is an option available to your Administrators. The most likely
reason for them having done that is to attempt to keep the mail under
their control. Caching mode means you have a copy with you.

With the limit on your live mailbox, you couldn't un-archive. So it is
really an issue of approaching your Administrators to see if they could
increase your limit as well as allow caching mode that would balance out
some of the impact of all that mail. Perhaps in that conversation you
might find why they are limiting caching mode.

One trick that might help you is if your mail size is due to a few large
messages you don't really need. A query folder of all big messages sort
by size and really look at the big messages (attachments) because
sometimes you'll find you can clear lots that way. It is a persistent
enough issue I wrote up the details of this for a number of my clients.

Also, this is the GroupWise 8 area and you noted that you are on the 2012
client, not that it makes any difference for your issue. For future
reference there is a separate forum for that
