POA dies

Hi,

I have had the POA die on me repeatedly when using the webaccess or datasync
It doesn't always, but every now and then and not always for the same reason.
Using contacts and mail sync to iPhone/iPad - 1 user (me)
Datasync was taken in use yesterday
GW 2012 - about 2 months ago

webaccess has been killing POA since first start
Both use SOAP, or ?
Maybe thats the problem?

Will enable POA verbose logging and see if it records something
but can you recommend any good troubleshooting for now?

Sincerely,

DB

Is the log and I cannot see anything indicating the death?

Re: POA dies

Shutdown the POA. Rename and rebuild the wphost.db. Also rename the wpcsin and wpcsout directories to .old. Then start it up again.
How often is it happening? How many users on this PO? Do you have 25% free space? Do you know what triggers the crash?

Re: POA dies

Thanks for the fast reply.
Haven't done a rebuild before, will google it.

Only 5 users. 78% free space
Using of webaccess and/or datasync connection triggers it
will try to use it and see if I can pinpoint the exact thing that triggers it.

Re: POA dies

It's pretty fast and easy. If you have not done a rebuild before, you may want to consider doing a system wide rebuild (Top Down Rebuild) for your domain and post office then. See TID #3347260 "Doing a Top Down Rebuild on GroupWise 5, 6, 6.5, 7, or 8". When you take the domain down, I would recommend renaming mslocal, wpcsin, and wpcsout to .old, just in case there's a message that the domain is trying to pass to the POA that is actually causing it to crash. With the POA, rename just wpcsin and wpcsout.

Re: POA dies

Tried the rebuild but somthing went wrong because the POA wouldn't start

Did as follows:

Downed the system
renamed wphost.db (postoffice) to wphost.db_old and wpcsin and wpcsout to *.old
C1 groupwise utilities - Mailbox/Library maintenance - analyze/fix databases

Started system but POA failed to start
renamed wphost.db back
and it started OK

What did I do wrong?

Re: POA dies

OK thanks for the TID.
Will see if the renaming of the wpcsin/out dirs helped
if not I'll follow the TID

Thanks so far!

you do realize that in the end wphost.db must exist right? typically you
choose rebuild, rebuild toanother location, rename the old one,and copy
the new one back. That doesn'tseem clear from what you did

Re: POA dies

As Michael mentioned, you can't just rename the .db, that won't get automatically recreated, you have to go into ConsoleOne, connect to owning domain, right click the PO, select GroupWise Utilities, System Maintenance, the chose the database rebuild option.

Re: POA dies

This seems a lot like the problem we've been having recently. I updated to GW2012 a couple of weeks back during a vacation (we're a school). The problem started happening on the first production day, monday a week later. segfaulting gwpoa every 5 minutes. Disabled SOAP and the problem went away, however, SOAP is very necessary for WebAccess.

I reinstalled the GroupWise server with OES11 and ran a standalone gwcheck. That was last thursday. Since then it has not occurred again but I'm ready to do a core dump and open an SR if it does reappear.
