Printing with Associated Application

This is a fun one.

GW v8HP1 client. Big Kahuna (BK) wants to print out GW attachments from within GroupWise without opening them in their native app first (Word, for a DOC file, for example). BK also wants to select a printer other than the Windows default to print them to.

When BK selects Print for one of these emails, then selects the email and the attachment (say, a Word doc), and selects "print" without changing the printer, both items go to the Windows default printer. Problem is, the Word doc is printed with a GroupWise border around it. BK doesn't like that, he wants it to look like it does when printed from Word.

So, BK selects the email and the attachment from the Print list, and selects the "Print attachment with associated Application" option, then "print". Items show up on Windows default printer, no problem, and in the proper format (you can even see Word open briefly during the process).

But, now BK wants to go to a different printer than the Windows default. So, he selects the email and the attachment from the Print list, selects the "Print attachment with associated Application" option, selects the printer he wants it to go to from the drop-down, then "print". The email itself shows up on the selected printer, but the attachment goes to the Windows default printer! No matter what printer he selects, the attachment always goes to the Windows default printer.

I tried it on v7.0.3 and got the same results.

So, what we want is to select everything in that last scenario but have both items go to the selected printer. Yes, I know, all you have to do is open the Word doc and print it from there, but BK is...well, BK...and doesn't want to do it that way. And, honestly, he's got a point.

Is this a feature, or a bug? Anyone know of another workaround, short of changing the default printer?

Thanks!

Greg

Re: Printing with Associated Application

Nope, no other way than changing the default printer before you print.

That's just down to Windows, the print settings in one application
(Groupwise) have absolutely no effect on another application (the
associated app) - all you are asking that app to do is print the
attachment, so the print settings used are those that you would see on
starting that application - usually the system default printer
