Problems renaming a user

We are running GroupWise 2014 and GMS 2.0.

I renamed a user by first renaming him in eDirectory using C1, then renamed
his GroupWise account in GW Administration. At this point we realized his
syncing with GMS was not working. I removed him from GMS and re-added
him.The initial sync to GMS failed and I saw that under GroupWise settings
fro the user it still showed his old username.

I noticed his LDAP DN was still showing his old username, so I clicked
Synchronize in GW Administartion and that updated.

I removed and re-added him again in GMS, but still shows his old username as
his GroupWise User Name on the GroupWise Settings (where the address book
choice and direction of sync options are).

All I can find that still shows his old username is attribute 58004
Distinguished Name under the Display Object Information found in Diagnostics
for that user in GroupWise Adminsitration.

Is this what is causing the problem? Did I miss a step when I renamed his
account? Is there any way to change the Distinguished name as stored in that
attribute?

Thanks in adavance for any help anyone can provide.

Re: Problems renaming a user

Forgot to mention that when his account begins to sync in GMS, the Full
Name, GroupWise email address and Post Office lines are blank on the
dashboard. they never populate.

Re: Problems renaming a user

Jerry,

I wouldn't use C1 any more.
Try checking the edir object with an LDAP browser, maybe the old name is stuck somewhere.

I would look at running maint on each of the 3 systems involved (eDir, GW,
GMS).
- EDir health check being a run of ndsrepairs on each server (in-case the
change isn't replicating correctly)
ndsrepair -T (all should be connecting)
ndsrepair -E (all should be synced within an hour of current time)
ndsrepair -C -Ad -A (there shouldn't be any obituaries that are more than
an hour old)
- GroupWise "Top Down rebuild" as per TID 3347260 (I haven't found a 2014
specific version yet but the concepts translate just using the web admin
interface vs C1) https://www.novell.com/support/kb/doc.php?id=3347260
- for GMS use dsapp for both a general health check and maintenance as well as
making sure the user is fully flushed from that perspective before adding them
back in.

Re: Problems renaming a user

The Distinguished Name issue and GW Username issue worked itself out over
night, but still couldn't get it working.

I used dsapp to delete everything from the databases for both usernames from
GMS and restarted GMS. Added the user back to GMS and it is working now, but
all folders are duplicated. I think removing and adding the account back to
the phone should fix that.

So good progress, Thank you for the update. And the duplicate folders on the
device is rather to be expected when you are effectively adding it all back in
as another account. One of the reasons I try to resist user ID renamings.
