Restore Trash for a Resource

Hi all,

We are Running GW2014R2.

One of our clients was using trash as a file store for work in progress within a resource. (Even though we had set up cabinet folders for this).

Is it possible to restore the trash for a resource and also can resource emails be archived?

Primarily though the post is related to the restore. I wanted to check if it was possible before I go ahead to do the resatore as normal and not waste my time.

Cheers

Anthony

Re: Restore Trash for a Resource

Hi Anthony,

You can't access the Backup option via proxy access into the resource, but what you can do is with your Restore Area in place and correctly configured, in the Admin Console go to the resource in question, click on More and select Restore from the drop-down menu. Note that this will restore all mail that is in the restore area but not in the live mailbox.

To answer your second question, as far as I am aware a Resource does not support archiving. Besides you can't access an archive via proxy, which is how you access a resource.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,
Laura Buckley

Re: Restore Trash for a Resource

Thanks Laura,

You've answered what I thought anyway. I'm not overly concerned about it I just need to confirm to go to the users with an answer. The resource is supposed to be only a holding area until the mail is uploaded to another system, at which time it is supposed to be deleted.

Procedures were not being followed.

Mind you ... this is not the first time I've come across users who use trash to file their emails..... weird.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Re: Restore Trash for a Resource

Hi Anthony,

I had an ongoing battle with one such user. One day I walked up to their desk, picked up their in-tray full of their paperwork and dumped it into the trash can. I then requested that the cleaning staff, on their regular schedule, empty out the trash can.

User was furious but I got my point across!

Cheers,

PMJI, but I'm glad I'm not the only one dealing with this. I had one
user who thought his Groupwise Trash was an excellent filing location.
I asked him if he filed things in the trash can sitting next to his
desk. He said, no, that's different. <head on desk> You just have
to wonder what goes through people's minds. Sigh.
