Screen "freezes" when opening Groupwise calendar

Hello,

a collegue and I have an annoying problem with Groupwise. Everytime when we anyone of us opens the calendar the first time after Windows has booted up or was in the standby mode The calendar shows a blank screen in the main Groupwise color. When somebody clicks on this screen the pc is loading a while and everything is presented correctly. Does somebody have the same problem or knows how to fix it? We use GW 8.02. Our earlier 5.5 version did not show this effect. Thanks in advance.

Best Regards,

Philip

Re: Screen "freezes" when opening Groupwise calendar

Hi Philip,

this can happen for some reasons:
the first is a bug that groupwise client up to version 8.01.hp1 had. you said you use 8.02, but i would recommend updating just the client to 8.02hp1
now here comes the list of bugs inside the client i know of and have seen:

- you use the groupwise "base folder" when starting up groupwise, also called the "Home View" , in options or by registry you can change the view to just display the mailbox when loading groupwise. Then the client wont hang up on first load.
the reason why this can happen is you may have "all day appointments" or "posted all day appointsments" (in german: ihr habt ganztägige termine bzw empfängerlose ganztägige termine). Thats also why the calendar is colored in the color of a default appointment
- you use the shared calendar as default, switch to monthly single user view for testing, exit client, restart windows and see if it happens again

test when the screen freezes, with task manager the grpwise.exe should have 49%(dual core) or 99%(single core) if the bugs i describe happen.
are u admins or just users ?

greets
holger

Re: Screen "freezes" when opening Groupwise calendar

Please excuse the long time distance after writing the last time. deleting the TEMP-Folder had no effect. A new installation of the 8.02hp1 client just invoked that
the response time after the freeze is shorter. But the freeze remains and my colleague also has to double click on the window that the multi user calendar is shown.
Are there any other solutions?

Have you tried the 8.0.2 HP3 client?

Re: Screen "freezes" when opening Groupwise calendar

We've had this issue as a SR sent in to Novell.
Novell supplied us with a test-version, in which the speed was 10 times faster than the HP2.
This was after the release of HP2, and before HP3.

The speed issue was NOT resolved in HP3, (so most of our secretaries are using an "in-between HP2 and3'"-version .

From a mail from the Novell-engineer I quote:

We reopened this because the code is not put to the GW8 main branch. What
we want is to merge it into GW8 main branch after 802 HP3. It will then be
available as an FTF after HP3. This also means that the customer will lose
this fix if they upgrade to GW 8.0.2 HP3. The reason we want to delay is due
to the risk of the fix for other customers. We want the fix to bake longe

So it should be in a next version of GW.

Can you send me a Private Message letting me know the SR# and I can then
ask Novell for more details on the above, progress, etc.
