Sent Mail to nonexistent address

If an e-mail to a nonexistent address is sent, I don't get any error message and the message is indicated as sent.

Reagrdless to what nonexistent domain and address? Then you must have an
outgoing relay server in front of GWIA that is the culprit.

Re: Sent Mail to nonexistent address

The error message you get depends on the error returned by the receiving
server. If the user address is wrong within a correct, real live internet
domain then you usually get the undeliverable straight away. If the domain
name is wrong, then GW will try for 4 days (by default) before it gives up
and sends you the undeliverable error.

This mechanism can be thrown if the receiving side is set up with the
initial receiving server set to accept everything, with a more selective
server further down the chain of receivers - this may mean that you never
get the unknown recipient message back.

Cheers Dave

In the special case a user had a write error in the domain name and it was 7 days ago. We use an outgoing relay server.

Was anything unclear about my earlier reply? It's the relay hosts job.

Re: Sent Mail to nonexistent address

I have made a request to the provider and described the problem.

Thanks for the replies!
