Signature Issues

In GroupWise 2012 Sp1 clients we are wanting to have an image in our Signature but it appears to nearly double the size of the email. Now I know it has to do the MIME file but I noticed the following:

When we send a PDF to a Gmail account there isn't an MIME file showing the properties of the sent email.
If we send another email with the same PDF and add the Signature the MIME file shows in the properties and the email almost doubles in size.

I know we need to service pack to SP2 yet but I thought this issue was corrected in Groupwise 8

Just wondering,
