Skip SP1 and install SP2 on existing server

We have the SP2 downloaded and extracted, and we have the Mobility Pack 1.2.5 (iso) in place. Is there any need to install SP1 prior to the SP2 install on the existing 2014R2 system?

I am not aware of a Service Pack 2 for GroupWise 2014 R2.
Please see this thread: 2014 R2 SP1 HP2 (14.2.1.2 | 12/2/2016) released

What version of GroupWise do you have installed?
What SP2 have you downloaded?

GroupWise service packs are full versions of GroupWise.
It's always a good idea to first review the README!

Groupwise 2014r2 (GW14.2.0_full_win_multi) is installed

GW14.2.1hp1_full_win_multi (SP1) downloaded
GW14.2.1hp2_full_win_multi (hot patch 2) downloaded + Moblity ISO

Looking at the READMEs, I can see where there might be some confusion.

  • GroupWise service packs are full releases of the product
  • None of the READMEs specify any prerequisits
  • The README for HP1/HP2 does say that HP2 superceeds HP1

So the piece that appears to be missing is this: Is a hot patch a full service pack?

In his Cool Solution GroupWise 2014 R2 SP1 HP1 (14.2.1.1) Available! Mile Bills, Product Line Manager Collaboration, had this to say:
We highly recommend that customers on GroupWise 2014 R2 and later update to this hot patch. Customers upgrading from earlier versions of GroupWise to GroupWise 2014 R2 should upgrade directly to the hotpatch to have the latest version.
Keep in mind, Mike's comments apply to HP1 because HP2 had not been released.

Conclusion: You can go directly to GroupWise 2014 R2 SP1 HP2 (14.2.1.2)

  • without installing GroupWise 2014 R2 SP1 HP1 (14.2.1.1)
  • and without installing GroupWise 2014 R2 SP1 (2014.2.1)

Please be aware of this (taken from the README):
NOTE: This release has fixes that have previously been provided by Micro Focus Global Technical Services in the form of a Field Test Files (FTF). If you have received an FTF from Technical Support after GroupWise 2014 R2 SP1 please examine the Change Log section to determine if your fix has been included before applying. An updated FTF can be requested from Support if your fix is not included.

Hi,

You can go straight from GroupWise R2 to SP1 HP2. You do not need to do incremental patching/upgrading.

Cheers,

Just to avoid anyone going on a hunt: You're thinking of GMS. There is
no HP3 for Groupwise itself (yet).
