Some mails are hidden, after changing status from Resource to User

I had to upgrade a "Resource" to a full "User".
As I was told a direct upgrade wasn't possible, I took the following steps:
1. Shared all the Resource's folders with an existing user.
2. The existing user moved all mails to new folders in his own mailbox.
3. Deleted the Resource and created a full User with the same username (=mailaddress) as the old Resource.
4. The existing user shared the new folders with the new full User.
5. The new full User moved the mail to new folders in her new mailbox.

No errors was shown during these actions.

BUT apparently, not all mails are visible in the new mailbox.
The mailbox indicates 101 unread mails, although all mails in the box has been reopened.
Sent items indicates 1078 items, but only 668 are shown.

I'm not that worried about some lost mails, but it's very irritating with the indication of 101 unread mails in the Mailbox.
I tried to move all mails form Mailbox to an other folder, but even then the - now empty - Mailbox shows 101 unread items.

I ran a Maintenance on Post Office, with Structure and Index check, but that didn't help.

Any other suggestions?

Re: Some mails are hidden, after changing status from Resour

Hi Jens,

You could try maintenance (GWCheck) just on that user account - untick Structure, tick Contents and Fix Problems. Ensure that both user and message databases are selected.

Please let us know how it goes.

Hi Laura

Unfortunately this didn't solve the problem.

***** OVERALL STATS FOR THIS RUN *****
*********************************************************************
Uncorrectable conditions encountered:
- No problems found
Correctable conditions encountered:
- No problems found
*********************************************************************

I also ran the Content maintenance:

Items breakdown: IN OUT PERS DRAFT | TOTAL
----- ----- ----- ----- + -----
mail.................. 411 663 2 0 | 1076
appointment........... 0 515 0 0 | 515
note.................. 0 0 0 0 | 0
task.................. 0 0 0 0 | 0
phone................. 0 0 0 0 | 0
----------------------------- + ------
total................. 411 1178 2 0 | 1591

Comparing these results to the number of mails in the box, it could be the appointments, that are invisible.
Does this make it easier to find a solution?

Hi Jens,

It could be the display options on the mailbox that are set not to display appointments.

You could fiddle with these settings or run a GWCheck on the user account selecting Reset Client Options.

Please let us know how it goes.

Hi Laura

Did that, followed by content and index check.
Still no change.

I'll give it a few days and see if someone can come up with a solution. Else I'll do the process all over again (share folders, move mails, delete user, recreate user, import mails from shared folders).

Re: Svar: Re: Some mails are hidden, after changing status f

Hi Jens,

I found this article: http://ohmag.net/?p=967

It talks about converting a user to a resource whilst maintaining all the data. At the end of the article it mentions that you can do this in the reverse i.e. resource to user. You may find this useful for the future.

With regards to your current issue, have you tried to login to WebAccess and see if the mail/appointments appear there? I have, in the past, seen recurring appointments appear as unread in the Mailbox or folder that they are in e.g. if the appointment recurs 10 times the Mailbox will indicate 10 unread items. So just check for that in WebAccess - I find that the easiest way to "see" these issues and sort them out.

Hi again Laura

Thanks for your link to the article. As I have a few more conversions to do, I'll study it closely.

I tried to log in to WebAccess. There was some unopened calender items, but deleting or opening them, didn't make any difference. I guess they came from a later import of the resource's calender.

My next step is to create a new user, and try to move the visible mails to her. I have accepted some mails/appointments have been lost, but I'll like to get rid of 101 unread mails message. If I only move the mails I can see, I hope to gain this.

Thanks
Jens Jakob
