Supported Servers

The actual document is significantly out of date, but the R2 readme has the updated OS.

The problem is, the Readme doesn't list the supported Tomcat or Java versions on a SLES 12 OS and the actual documentation doesn't list SLES 12 at all.

I think the worst part is the Readmes' section "GroupWise System Requirements" refers to the outdated actual documentation.

So, SLES 12 currently offers Tomcat 8.0.43 and this will run with Java 9/9.0.1 with other WARs running fine.....but gw.war just completely falls apart. When will current technology actually be supported? Why are Groupwise releases so far apart, causing the product to quickly fall behind running/dependent services?

That would be correct. SLE 12 came after GW 2014 and SLE changed so many core aspects that GroupWise needs that
it is taking a lot of effort just to support a the new OS version. The next version based fully on SLE12 is
expected just around the corner. Documentation does have a tendency to lag actual code, so with what you have
happening, I'd open an SR.
As is SLES 12 support for GMS needs a separate installer from the SLES 11 install, so it hasn't been a trivial
path. So far GMS is the only piece I've done on SLES12 so far.
Just the move away from init.d hung up lots of how things were designed. When basic assumptions are changed out
from under you, it gets painful to make the changes needed, and that is what I've heard "grumbles" about.

GW 2014 is the old version, GW2014R2 is the current version. Naming/numbering of the new one, well we just won't
know that until it is actually out (I never trust the beta names even if they might follow the current/old naming
convention, as that might be about to be "upgraded" as well)

This perpetual upgrade rat race we are on so often gets in the way of actually moving forward, sigh.
