Synchonize Address Book with Outlook address book

With GW 8 we were able to use Groupwise Object Admin API to synchronize address books between our agency Groupwise systems and the Outlook systems.
Since upgrading to GW 14.0.2, SLES 11 sp3 we are unable to use this (unsupported) API due to the fact GW apparently "locks" the wpdomain.db database on SLES. We had mapped a Samba share to allow access by the Windows server that runs the GW Object API to grant access. The only time the database can be accessed is when GW is stopped.
I looked at the REST API options and do not see an option to read/modify the list of user addresses.

Have any of you run across this?

For these Outlook 'systems' are we talking just standalone instances of
Outlook, or actual Exchange systems?

If Exchange systems, see the docs at
https://www.novell.com/documentation/groupwise2014r2/gw2014_guide_exchcoe
xist/data/coex_addrbksync.html

standalone instances of Outlook can get some addressbook information
through the GroupWise Mobility Service (GMS)
https://www.novell.com/documentation/groupwisemobility2014r2/
or via LDAP lookups.
