Testing out ScrollOut F1 on GroupWise

Hi All

I'm currently testing out ScrollOut F1 in conjunction with GroupWise.
So far it seems pretty good, I can even get DKIM signatures on outgoing mail this way, allthough that makes me loose the cool feature that GroupWise has that you can see in the 'sent' if mails has been sent, and when it was received.
It detects pretty good as far as I can see.
One thing is, currently I get mails marked as SPAM with a modified subject (SPAM: ), I seem to recall that if I get the ScrollOut F1 software to add a line to the header, GroupWise will automatically move the spam marked mail to 'Junk', isn't that right?
What should the added mailheader look like?

Best regards

I guess I'm not clear why this should be the case. Are you sending mail through
it as a relay host (you wouldn't have to), but also, the tracking properties in
GW should still work overall. Perhaps tell me how you are sending, and why it
seems different.

Look under the SMTP/MIME settings for your GWIA and choose the Junk Mail
settings. Then look at the header of one of your messages. You just need to
have an "X-header" that you can always test on - so "X-Spam=Yes" or some such.
Put that in the x-fields here and it should move those messages to the Junk Mail
folder.

I relay through the Scrollout F1 when sending, to get the DKIM key added to the mail.
So the GW only reports when my own Scrollout F1 receives the mail, and of course not when Scrollout F1 relays the mail successfully.
I can get Scrollout F1 to send a mail report when it's relayed, but that is excessive, receiving all those mails.

Re: Testing out ScrollOut F1 on GroupWise

I ran into one more question:
With the 'directory agnostic' approach in GroupWise, and the ability to work with multiple directories, is it possible to ask GroupWise via LDAP to verify email addresses from ScrollOut F1?

Not with current shipping code. Next release will have a LDAP server you can use to query.. Sometime this summer/fall timeframe.

Re: Testing out ScrollOut F1 on GroupWise

Hmm, the spam mail doesn't always end up in the Junk folder in the client (yes, the client options are set to handle junk mail).
I can see in the mail that it has the tag:
X-Spam-Flag: YES
That's the line I've entered in the GWIA Junk mail as well.
Did I do something wrong somewhere?

Re: Testing out ScrollOut F1 on GroupWise

Hi,

Perhaps it is possible to configure SchollOut F1 to do LDAP look ups directly against eDirectory without it going via GroupWise? On the ScrollOut F1 site it does mention native LDAP support. Perhaps worth a bit of further digging?

Cheers,

Re: Testing out ScrollOut F1 on GroupWise

Hi Laura

Yes, that is a possibility, the problem is that there are a lot of nicknames configured, and eDir doesn't have these, so they will be discarded 🙂
It's not a big deal for me on this setup, I'll just wait for the new code to see how it works.

Thanks
Kenneth

Re: Testing out ScrollOut F1 on GroupWise

Hi Kenneth,

Indeed, nicknames are a problem. We use IronPorts (a Cisco solution) and ran into the same issue thus we don't use recipient verification. We simply let the IronPorts do what they do best and that is keeping spam out!
