User mixup?

Hi!

We have a user who has e-mails belonging to another user in his
mailbox. (From or To doesn't contain the first users name!)
The e-mails are in the Work In Progress folder.
When you open an e-mail the From field contains the other persons name
and e-mail address. The two don't know each other or have ever
e-mailed each other.
Both are in different post offices under different domains and
different FiD's.
We are in the middle of the GW8 -> GW2012 transition,
so back end is GW2012SP1, clients are (mostly)GW8 and GW2012.
Weird, isn't it?
Grtz,
Peter

Re: User mixup?

Hi Peter,

I would recommend that you open an SR with Novell to get this thoroughly investigated.

Cheers,

Thank you Laura,
I'll check if the user still has the e-mails and will then open a SR.

I've seen this happen to me once. Do you have a SR open yet?

Not what I expected, but I can live with it....
You cannot see everything in a crystal ball!

===

I am sorry that this issue happened in your environment. Trust me when
I
tell you this is not common practice at all within the GroupWise
product
set. I have been working with GroupWise since the 1990's (when it was
Word
Perfect Office) and have only seen this happen a handful of times.

There have been code issues in the past where cross-linking messages
between two users was possible. However, I have not seen this same
type of
code issue in 2012. Rather what tends to happen is a message will get
linked to an incorrect account during an upgrade or migration of some
sort.

Did you happen to perform an upgrade or migration this year?

To correct this issue, I would recommend that user Rene delete the two
messages. Then run a Contents check only against the entire Post
office.
Please send me the log upon completion.

===

If we bring the databases in house, we will show a message attached to
the user database. We will not see why it was attached from the other
user account. So the evidence is not really going to show us why this
happened. I know that is the question you want answered, but we are
most likely not going to be able to give it to you.

====

I spoke with backline about this, they confirmed what I told you. We
will not really see anything in the databases.

A couple questions did come up though:
1) Are you sure that User1 did not try to open a .eml file that was
created by User2?

2) Is there a chance that User2 has proxy rights to User1?

===

We know the messages got linked to the wrong user database but we
cannot tell why. We also know this is not a common occurance given the
history at your company and of the product. The best recommendation
moving forward is to make sure you stay somewhat current with the
application and OS code and continue to run scheduled maintenance on a
regular basis.
