What a Joke.. Petition from US to Novell..

What a Joke.. I kept GW as part of my SLA because I had intended to upgrade from Netmail to GW with the GW8 release, because it was SUPPOSED to come with an updated Outlook Connector that worked with Outlook 2007.

Well, the Joke is on me I guess.

I read about how difficult it is for them to develop the connector and how they have rebuilt it three times.. BLA BLA BLA

I have evaluated at least 4 different E-mail Server Platforms that have "Groupware" calendars, tasks, etc, and they ALL have working Outlook connectors for THEIR products..

I still love the Novell platform for my network, but if Novell is not willing to do what is necessary to ensure inoperability with EVERY e-mail client available, then they should not be in the e-mail business at all.

So, I think we need to stand up and tell Novell just exactly what we think about this. It is an absolute travesty that paying customers cannot use Groupwise and version of Outlook, beyond 2003.

If you agree with me, post your thought in this tread. If enough of us complain, maybe they will do something..

Where did you get that from? Never has Novell said that they were doing
a 2007 connector - I know because I was heavily involved in the 2003
connector and how much work that was...

The was that 2007 does things internally is almost 100% different to 2003
and therefore Novell would have had to start again afresh - and that was
too big a project.

Having said the above - other alternatives are being looked at, and in
time we may be happier.

As to other "supported" solutions - look again, their integration is less
than 50%, they download to local storage, all sorts on nonsense that will
wok for 10, 50 or maybe streach to 100 folk - but GW systems need to deal
with 10s of 1000s

Actually they most certainly did. Earlier in the Bonsai development the
word was that Bonsai would have an updated connector which supports
Outlook 2007 while GW7 would never support Outlook 2007. Then that
changed later on to say that the initial release of GW8 would not have an
updated connector but that the door was open for the future.

I agreee with 99% of your comments, but WORKING? Did you test extremely
extensively? Because the basics are easy but AFAIK all of them have many
many many bugs and corner cases.

I'd actually be happy if the GW8 Windows client could do anything
without crashing. I can't get it to stay up long enough to send an email.

Well, that's odd I guess from my perspective. I don't use the Windows
client near as often as the Mac client now, but I don't have issues with it
crashing myself.

Re: What a Joke.. Petition from US to Novell..

We have a lot of installations with hp7.03 installed without any
common issues. But,, for GW8 in our inhouse testing, unfortunately,
most of us do have issues and to make matters worse, the issues are
different on different PCs so we cant really get a common thread...

Same here, though I've not done extensive testing. But so far on a
couple of machines where I installed it new (not an upgrade from 7) it's
worked fine. Create new mails, reply to mails, compose using GW as the
editor, compose using Word as the editor, compose using OOo as the
editor, etc.

Re: What a Joke.. Petition from US to Novell..

It would make me happyif they just did away with the groupwise client all together and concentrated on having the best mail server backend on the market with support for all the current mail clients...
