liboff_eng.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file

Hello,

after upgrade to GW 2014R2 on SLES 11 SP4, we get the following errors using gwtmstmp or dbcopy:

/opt/novell/groupwise/agents/bin/gwtmstmp: error while loading shared libraries: liboff_eng.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
/opt/novell/groupwise/agents/bin/dbcopy: error while loading shared libraries: liboff_eng.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

In the new 2014R4 there is no updated liboff_eng.so, but I can find this file at:

/opt/novell/groupwise/software/gwinst/lib/liboff_eng.so
/opt/novell/groupwise/agents/lib/liboff_eng.so

Any ideas ?

Regards,
D. Oeden

Hi,

Just a quick question... did you install the RPM's such as the dbcopy one? As far as I am aware this is a manual procedure and these don't get installed by running the installation program.

Hello,

nope... Just updated from 2014 SP2 to 2014R2... I've unpacked the rpm package (rpm2cpio novell-groupwise-server-14.2.0-122092.x86_64.rpm | cpio -idmv) now, but I cant find a dbcopy or gwtmstmp rpm file. The dbcopy and gwtmstmp are unpacked, but there is no installer.

Hi,

My bad... I've just realised my mistake... only in earlier versions did you have to manually install these rpms. So sorry, let me investigate further.

Hello again,

if I start:

gwmail:/ # ./opt/novell/groupwise/agents/bin/dbcopy

I get the error:

./opt/novell/groupwise/agents/bin/dbcopy: error while loading shared libraries: liboff_eng.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

But if I change into the directory /opt/novell/groupwise/agents/bin

and start directly dbcopy from the destination:

gwmail:/opt/novell/groupwise/agents/bin # ./dbcopy

DBcopy works fine.... I'm now really confused 🙂

Hi,

Let me do some testing to see if I can duplicate the error when trying to launch dbcopy from any location other than it's actual directory. Personally I have never tried that i.e. I've always been in the actual directory holding dbcopy.

Hi,

I can confirm that I get the same error when trying to launch dbcopy from a location other than it's "home" directory. I'll report it.

This is an issue due to architectural changes made with 2014 R2. To workaround, either cd to /opt/novell/groupwise/agents/bin and run dbcopy, or in your shell, enter:

export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/novell/groupwise/agents/lib

The next question about this is:
Does this also apply to running it on Windows?

Hi D. Oeden,

Just so that you know... I have requested that a TID be published on this issue for everybody's reference. I'll update you with the TID number once done 🙂
