renaming user

GroupWise 18.0.1
Messenger 18.0.1
ldap sync to edir

User gets married. Change account info and rename eDir and GroupWise. Messenger account is not changed/updated automatically.
User is unable to login. No way to manually change username in Messenger.
Delete account then recreate account.

step by step process:
disassociate GroupWise account from eDir account.
adjust last name in eDir, delete email field
rename eDir account
rename GroupWise account
re-associated GroupWise account with eDir account
create nickname for old email address with 3 month expiration date

there is no place to rename the messenger account.
and an ldap sync does not pickup the account change.

am I wrong in dissociating the GroupWise account from the eDir account before name changes, or will it pick those up automatically?

Did you find out how to get messenger accounts renamed automatically? We're having the same issue with our system.

Please open a SR!

I assume that you started with "old" Messenger linked to eDirectory. The migration path (from eDir to GroupWise) did not really take care of the new situation - that's the dilemma you have to deal now. In my eyes it's a bug ...

I have a customer running into the same situation. He did not get a solution, but explanation.

I'm double checking on this but my understanding was that an LDAP rename did not trigger an object rename in Messenger.  I'll be happy if I'm wrong 🙂  I hope to have a final answer on this soon.

Promised update.  This is what I got back from development.

"Userid will never change.  First and last and full name should.  If the cn component of the user's DN does change, then a user alias will be created for the messenger object, so that alias can be used to login with."

Does this information line up with what you are seeing in your environments?

Hi Bert,

Not quite, the first and last name change, but the fullname does not. These are users that have been migrated from an old eDirectory integrated Messenger 3 system.

Here's the example: User was Mary Smith
login: **PERSONAL INFORMATION REMOVED**
Full Name: Mary Smith
First Name: Mary
Last Name: Smith
Email address: **PERSONAL INFORMATION REMOVED**

Surname changed to Jones - changed cn and user field in eDirectory, synced to GroupWise, fields now:
login: **PERSONAL INFORMATION REMOVED**
Full Name: Mary Smith
First Name: Mary
Last Name: Jones
Email address: **PERSONAL INFORMATION REMOVED**

Migrated users are in a special class all their own.  If you want to dig into it you can pull up the Arango web interface and look at the details of the user object.  There are 4 types.  0 = migrated 3.x user. 1 = eDir associated user.  2 = GroupWise sourced user.  And 3 = AD sourced user.

You can disassociate a type 0 and then re-associate as a type 1 or even associate with a GW account.  But beware, there is no way to go back to a type 0 unless you can re-migrate from the original source.

So if we changed the user type to either eDirectory or GroupWise sourced would it then update all fields (including fullname) on changes in those sources? Or at least we'd have the option to change it manually?
