upgrade from gw 8

Hi,

i have inherited a system with an old GW 8 server.

Need to upgrade to gw 2014.

Is there a direct upgrade path and documentation available?

Thanks a lot.

Re: upgrade from gw 8

Hi DM,

Here's the official documentation for an upgrade: https://www.novell.com/documentation/groupwise2014r2/gw2014_guide_install/data/inst_system_upgrade.html

It is possible to upgrade directly to GroupWise 2014 R2 SP2.

Please post back here any comments or questions you may have.

Cheers,

Hi DM

In addition to what I posted above, you may find this article useful: http://ohmag.net/?p=981

Although it deals with an upgrade from GroupWise 2012, the process for upgrading from 8 is pretty much the same.

Another source for very useful upgrade documentation is http://www.caledonia.net/ . I've used the Caledonia documentation for several successful migration scenarios I've had in the past. The upgrade or mig is pretty straightforward if your GW system is healthy. Do make sure your DB's and system are generally healthy before moving to GW 2014.

Re: upgrade from gw 8

Hi Kevin,

Please advise, what operating system you are running your GroupWise 8 system on and whether it is 32 or 64 bit. There are some considerations in this regard.

Looking forward to hearing back from you.

This is a truism for any and all migrations, no mater which direction.
Letting an old system languish without maintenance is the same as
burning a bridge Before crossing it.
The most painful migrations and upgrades I've been a part of have been
those that hadn't been maintained or have even been abused ("don't like
this old system so lets beat it up").
