user move hangs in different states

Hi,

we have here on gw 14.0.1 two users who stuck in move.

in gwadmin-console
the first reports "send item request"
the second "completing retrieving items"

It´s the first problem we have moving users here.

We tried
- retry the last step of the mailbox move
- restart the entire mailbox move
w/o success

Because we dont know, what happens at "force complete", we ask here
what´s the best in this situation.

Gotthard

how long have they been in this state?
How are the two POAs connected? What sort of pipe/bandwidth between
them?
Have you had any other moves work successfully? Between these two POAs?
How big are those uses' mailboxes?

this state is since 5 days
> How are the two POAs connected?

We have here 3 po´s on different locations enlisted
one po is source and destination at the same time.
different WAN connections
> What sort of pipe/bandwidth between

the one 10/10 Mbit, the other 6000/1000 kbit

> Have you had any other moves work successfully? Between these two POAs?

Yes, some weeks ago we have some moves successfully finished.
I have to explain, the one po is new created (our first on Windows)
> How big are those uses' mailboxes?

the one on the windows po has 1,7 GB ("completing retrieving items")
the other 600 MB ("send item request")

If we ask for pending items, there are in both cases no results.

Sending a mail to to mailboxes in question results in an error response:
"message for user at dom.po could not delivered"

C/S Login Windows ::GW Id=<user> :: <ipaddresse>
Failed to Notify POA at: <fqnaddress> port 1678 with Slap ID 5225 rc [8908]

no messages at the other POA.

Re: user move hangs in different states

Hi Gotthard,

Is the user being moved trying to log in whilst the move is in progress?

Please let us know.

Re: user move hangs in different states

Hello,

the mailboxes in question are accessible, the one as a personal mailbox,
the other in proxy mode only, because its a institutional mailbox with
shared items.

So I could imagine to move the items to another user, kill the
mailboxes, recreate it and move all items back.

Go

Its a matter of timing, sometimes you get lucky and we are active here, other
times we are busy with projects. Enjoy these good times. Normally one of us
volunteers will be around at least once a day.

hmm, any filters on port 1678 between those two sites?
It looks like much of the move has happened, but some key steps are just
being blocked. Perhaps that Windows firewall needs to be turned off a bit for
the moves to complete. If port 1678 can get through both ways, then I'd look
at changing how SLAP works as per https://www.novell.com/support/kb/doc.php?
id=7009119

your suggested work around is certainly an option, but better if we can fix
the root cause for future moves.

Re: user move hangs in different states

Hi Gotthard,

For future reference please be aware that whilst a mailbox is being moved it should never, under any circumstances, be accessed. It should not even have Notify running against it. Accessing a mailbox during a live move introduces all kinds of problems. Well, that's just advice for future moves.

Now, I'll put my thinking cap on and see what I can come up with to solve your issue of stuck user moves......

Laura Buckley

Re: user move hangs in different states

Hi Gotthard,

I would recommend that you do open a Service Request - I would hate for you to be in a position where you potentially lose data by trying to force this user move to complete.

Please let us know how it goes.

May be, we have a communication problem. I have created a new user on
the po where the stuck user belongs.
This user is also not reachable, I got the message from my poa
"message could not delivered to user at <dom>.<po>"

My coworker at the firewall finds no blocks.
The admin console shows all agents green.

poa and mta log on sending site have no entries
just checked the agents on the windows server (can I really not view the
logs on the agents web console like on sles?), also no entries.

Go

Re: user move hangs in different states

Hi Gotthard,

Have you set an HTTP user name and password for your agents on the Windows server? You won't be able to view the logs unless these have been set.
