Object storage browser for S3 compatible storage engines

Object storage browser for S3 compatible storage engines

A cloud management platform (CMP) like Micro Focus HCM also has to integrate object storage services provided in:

  1. public cloud (e.g. AWS S3, Azure Blobs, Google Cloud Storage (GCS), OpenStack S3/Swift)
  2. private cloud (e.g. OpenStack S3/Swift)

solutions. To allow HCM users to navigate their object storage content graphically - within the CMP portal - an object storage browser is needed compared to what AWS S3, Azure Blobs, GCS or OpenStack S3/Swift already offer.

Therefore, we highly recommend to implement an object storage browser in your solution so the following actions can be executed graphically - directly within the CMP:

  1. creation of a new bucket (region select; bucket name; storage class: STANDARD, WARM, COLD; bucket policy: PRIVATE, PUBLIC READ, PUBLIC READ AND WRITE)
  2. showing the detailed information of created buckets (bucket name; bucket version; space used; owner ID; creation timestamp; access domain name; storage class: STANDARD, WARM, COLD; region; # of objects in the bucket)
  3. upload of a new file (file selection; selection of storage class: STANDARD, WARM, COLD)
  4. creation of a folder (folder name)
  5. executing the following day-2 operations on uploaded objects:
    1. change storage class (STANDARD, WARM, COLD)
    2. delete
    3. download
    4. restore (only visible + activated when storage class is COLD)
  6. changing permissions:
    1. add new accounts with READ and/or WRITE access to the bucket
    2. add new accounts with READ and/or WRITE access to the ACL
    3. change existing OWNER permissions for READ and/or WRITE access to the bucket
    4. change existing OWNER permissions for READ and/or WRITE access to the ACL
    5. change existing GROUP "anonymous user" permissions for READ and/or WRITE access to the bucket
    6. change existing GROUP "anonymous user" permissions for READ and/or WRITE access to the ACL
    7. change existing GROUP "registered user" permissions for READ and/or WRITE access to the bucket
    8. change existing GROUP "registered user" permissions for READ and/or WRITE access to the ACL

A good example for an object storage browser shows the following screenshot:
