Application Performance Manager (APM) and Digital Experience Management (DEM) are now considered critical by most analysts. DEM is similar to End User Monitoring but includes non-human devices and software-using-a-service in addition to us “biologicals.”

We have developed an APM self-assessment based the best practices and problems observed from analysts’ writings. It is a short, 10-question survey; it should take less than 5 minutes to complete.

Research in Action recently completed a study titled Continuous Application Performance Management SaaS And Software (CAPM): The Top 20 Global Vendors 2019. In addition to giving you information on vendors, there is a maturity curve which goes from Chaotic at 3% to Predictive at 10% of users. As you might guess, the bulk of users fall into the Stable category.

Key Requirements

Key requirements are also covered. Hybrid cloud management, and analytics and big data are near the top. This matches other analysts’ discussions of Artificial Intelligence for IT Operations (AIOps) where all types of data, including APM data, are bought together to speed analysis.

The number one investment users listed is Hybrid Cloud performance management. This is no surprise. Public clouds don’t lend well to traditional IT Operations management tools. Further with application spreading out to use both public cloud and legacy resources putting finding where an application problem is becomes exponentially harder.

This chart gives a breakdown of the components that make up a CAPM solution.
