At Micro Focus we have a rich history in ITOM software covering Service Management, Business Monitoring and Remediation, Data Center, and Hybrid Cloud Management serving thousands of IT-operations focused customers. This history means a large feature set and portfolio, but also complex and legacy software that we need to continuously refactor to best align to new customer use cases, advancing technologies and best practice software architecture and development.
The current status-quo is that it takes such software months to move from evaluation to staging to production. This timeline is required because of the degree of customization and integration needed to put the Solution together—which often requires professional services in the process.
However, innovation is all around us. Disruptive companies are now able to leverage a modern tool set to help the distribution of key software to their customers on a daily basis. For example, Tesla is able to address critical production software to their fleet and continue to do so on a regular cadence, allowing for over-the-air software updates. Customers accept such updates based on a high level of trust with the vendor, enhanced user experience, with a common outcome towards better safety.
It is a fierce software environment out there. We continuously try to stay relevant in our space while adding value to our customer base, and reaching out to new markets. We believe, we can also move toward this path and speed-up internal innovation. We are proud to be the first IT Operation Management software vendor to deliver our container-based suite on a new software foundation. This innovation allows us to offer to our customers and partners a new deployment and delivery model.
We are seen tremendous gains in terms of installation and patches delivery, which not only validates our vision but also allow us to also speed-up software deployment. At the end of the day, customers can appreciate better quality, better out of box integration, better scalability and resiliency from our software.
This evaluation gives you more insights on how we can drive toward a more automated and hands-free IT environment, one that does not require such heavy hand-holding from IT organizations. This should help IT teams to focus on their core strengths and not spending time worrying about operating IT software. As we are build more intelligence into this new Foundation, our new ITOM Suites can quickly adopt, inherit, and build on a known platform. The Container Deployment Foundation allows us to also have a more focused delivery while removing development silos within our large organization.
We recently released the Container Deployment Foundation, which powers the container-based ITOM Suites. As our software gets containerized, we quickly needed to build a common software layer to handle the amount of container images and pre-integrated components with a very high degree of automation. To accomplish this, we are betting on Docker and Kubernetes, two key Open Source software platforms, to give us the right container and orchestration environment.
On top of this, we have built a set of shared services that streamline overall collaboration and integration. Services such as Licensing, Authentication, and Single-Sign, and Configuration, and Database are key components which are available out of the box. ITOM Suites can consume those services without the need to build, customize or embed their own technology.
We have also secured our container assets prior to delivery. Based on Micro Focus Cyber security best software development practices, we have also added container-specific secured tooling and processes such as image signing, as well as offline and runtime-based image scanning.
Finally, we are moving forward with a new software delivery model where we are leveraging a private and secure Docker Container Registry. This registry allows for a quick publishing and consumption of our ITOM assets. This is a complete overhaul on how we publish and deliver software into our customer hands. It gives R&D organizations the freedom to release their software and components with a higher release cadence, and integrate it within their controlled and gated CI/CD process. Our customers get quick and secure access to our release repositories—allowing them to evaluate and deploy the latest software and fixes within their environment.
With the introduction of this new delivery pipeline, we can now become leaner, faster, and more focused. This is extremely beneficial to our customer base and allows us to respond quickly to market needs. Expect more innovation within HPE software as the Container Deployment Foundation is now driving the new software fabric.
Note - If you are attending the ITOM Summit in Dallas this week, visit the ITOM demo booths for a demo of the new container-based suites.
