CMS 10.32.jpgIf you're working in the world of ITOM, UCMDB is the mother of all things, and you have to get that right.

-- Kaushik Ray, VP Global Operations & Architecture, Sungard AS, at Discover London 2016

While here at Micro Focus we have stressed  for a long time that the key to a successful IT Operations Management (ITOM) program within any organization is a strong CMS foundation, hearing it from an IT leader who lives and breathes ITOM on a daily basis is that much more of a testament to the power of using configuration management as the engine to make ITOM run as it should.

We recognize the value that CMS brings to an ITOM program.  This is why we're excited to announce that starting with CMS 10.32 released today, we will be including all of our Automated Service Modeling capabilities license-free with the purchase of Universal Discovery Full nodes. This will be included with all future purchases of CMS 10.32 and above, and the new licensing will be applied to all current customers that upgrade to CMS 10.32 as well!

Automated Service Modeling (ASM) is what "connects the dots" within a CMDB. Once CIs are discovered, ASM is able to determine the dependencies that exist between them, enabling the ability to perform impact analysis and changement management with ITSM. This information provides the baseline of information for operations analytics, asset management, security operations (SecOps), and more! Creating a service model within ASM is as simple as entering an end-point URL, and the model will be created on its own in a tops-down fashion. Historically, this was a completely manual process that could take weeks to complete, and now with ASM it can be created in a fraction of the time depending on the size of the service model, and kept updated automatically.

Outside of our exciting ASM news, CMS 10.32 offers the following new features:

  • Cloud discovery and content improvements: We have extended public cloud discovery in AWS to include Amazon EC2 Container Registry (ECR), Amazon EC2 Container Service (ECS), and Elastic Load Balancers. We have also added the discovery of MS Azure, and also added integrations for ArxView (storage manager) and Juniper Layer 2 devices.
  • UCMDB Browser Upgrades: a new dashboard that can show “at-a-glance” the health of all the discovery probes in your system, a new easy to use LDAP management module, and simplified creation of topology maps that can now be exported in the SVG format.
  • Admin and Supportability: Various enhancements to the hybrid user management feature, including support for CAC and LW-SSO, as well as support for LDAP dynamic groups, and extended support matrix coverage.
  • General upgrades: We have restored support for Windows Server 2008 SP1 and R2, to make it easier for you to upgrade to UCMDB 10.32, and we’ve simplified the process of upgrading your content so that changes you’ve made to certain types of content will be merged with the new updated content.

We hope you take the time to perform the free upgrade to CMS 10.32. Our real-time discovery and private / public cloud capabilities, paired with the new value of included ASM, provide a very strong foundation for your success in ITOM.
