What’s New in OpsBridge 2019.08 Licensing

3 1 3,042

We have just released a new product structure/licensing model for Operations Bridge (OpsBridge) and Application Performance Management (APM) products that simplify and give you vastly greater flexibility in how you can use licenses.

Introducing New Licensing and Pricing for Operations Bridge
Why have we changed the licensing?

We did this for two reasons, first to simplify–previously, there were over 1000 SKUs, now there are 3. Second, and more importantly, is to provide you even more value. For example, Micro Focus developed Management Packs, which are now included—you can find them on the ITOM Marketplace. Topology-Based Event Correlation (TBEC) was previously an extra-cost option with OpsBridge Premium; it is also now included along with unlimited Business Value Dashboards (BVD).

One of the best features, IMHO, is that you can change how the units are used. For example, let’s say you did a facilities consolidation which reduces the number synthetic transaction points you need. You can now use those points for additional server monitoring or any other capability in OpsBridge.

Another way you might use those freed-up points is if you want to test a capability before deciding if you want to put it in widespread use. Maybe you are not using BPM today but would like to see how it works. If you have enough extra points you are all set—no new licenses to purchase.

Operations Bridge editions
Before we get into the details of the unit licensing, let’s review the OpsBridge editions. OpsBridge Express (based on SiteScope) provides agentless monitoring of applications and infrastructure. Our APM products recently moved to the OpsBridge team. I only mention this as an explanation for why APM products are now included in OpsBridge.

OpsBridge Premium is designed for organizations who need event consolidation, now including APM collectors (BPM, Diagnostics and RUM) in addition to its agent-based collectors. OpsBridge Ultimate is our autonomous operations edition. It includes everything in Premium plus AIOps-based analytics, Universal Discovery, and automated remediation with Operations Orchestration.

Upgrades are available so you can start with Express and move to Ultimate as your needs evolve.

The new license model
Figure 3 shows the new model, or more precisely, the points needed for each capability.

Agentless monitoring is synonymous with OpsBridge Express—with one unit consumed for each OS instance—a server or VM. Agent-based monitoring provides much more information, so it requires 2 units to monitor an OS instance, if you want the added value of a management pack add 2 units. If you have questions about the rest of the chart, please put them in the comments. We are also doing a webinar where you can get more details and ask questions: What’s new in Operations Bridge 2019.08 - 26 Sep 19.

One item worth a special note is RUM—you’ll find it in the middle of the second row. RUM uses a probe to monitor transactions as they flow through the network. Previously, we licensed by the number of probes. Via feedback, you told us that estimating what you needed with per probe pricing was not easy. We now license by page views, which is easier to estimate and more common in the industry.

Row 3 covers integrations, which is a strength of OpsBridge. We have over developed by ourselves and partners. You can find those on ITOM Marketplace.

Units needed

1 unit per OS instance x 1000 OS      = 1000 units

1 unit per 5 web transactions = 500/5 =  100 units

                                                     Total 1100 units

We think you’ll find this new licensing easier and give you more flexibility in your deployments!
