What’s new in Operation Bridge 2019.08 - Automate Hybrid IT Discovery and Monitoring

We’re excited to announce the availability of Micro Focus Operations Bridge 2019.08. This release includes a bunch of enterprise readiness and stability updates, as well as functional enhancements and improvements to the existing features.

This is a 5-part blog, where the functionality included in this release is mapped to different Operations Bridge features. In this part you will see what’s new in OpsBridge 2019.08 - Automate Hybrid IT Discovery and Monitoring. The other parts are listed below:

Automate Hybrid IT Discovery and Monitoring

In this Operations Bridge feature, Automate Hybrid IT Discovery and Monitoring, you can monitor IaaS, PaaS, Kubernetes, and traditional IT environments. AWS, Azure, and Google along with private cloud based on VMware, OpenStack, Azure Stack and Docker Containers are supported. You can collect events, metrics, topology, wire data and log information from your Hybrid IT environment using a choice of agent, agentless and cloud API technologies. You can get complete health visibility of cloud vendor supplied resources and your workload running on top of it including digital experience monitoring.

Connector for Prometheus

Prometheus is an open source, metrics-based monitoring system. It records real-time metrics in a time series database built using an HTTP pull model, with flexible queries and real-time alerting.

An exporter is a piece of software that gets existing metrics from a third-party system and exports them to the Prometheus metrics format. This is useful for cases where it is not feasible to instrument a given system with Prometheus metrics directly (for example, HAProxy or Linux system stats).

The connector for Prometheus establishes a link between the Prometheus server and/or exporter and COSO Data Lake. The connector is installed on the Operations Agent system and uses REST Web Service requests to collect metrics from the Prometheus environment. The connector collects the metrics from the Prometheus server and/or exporter and stores it in COSO Data Lake. Multiple Prometheus servers and/or exporters can be monitored with a single integration. The following figure gives you an overview of the integration:


This is the first release of Connector for Prometheus. For more information see the Prometheus page on our documentation portal. You can download the Prometheus connecter from the Marketplace.

Please keep in mind that Prometheus connector is marked as “Limited Availability“ at the time of the release. So what exactly does this mean? “Limited Availability” implies that these capabilities are pending further performance and scalability tests, as well as corresponding recommendations and validation in customer environments and further functional enhancements. Therefore, Micro Focus recommends to start using these capabilities in non-production environments. Micro Focus is also recruiting customers who want to explore those features by participating in our Customer Validation program. Enhancements in Management Pack for JBoss Application Server

The Management Pack for JBoss Application Server (MP for JBoss Application Server) enables you to monitor JBoss Application Servers and the underlying infrastructure running in your environment. It includes Health Indicators (HIs), Event Type Indicators (ETIs), and Correlation Rules that analyze the events that occur in the JBoss Application Servers and report the health status.

The MP for JBoss Application Server introduces the following features in this release:

  • Support for JBoss command line parameters to start the JBoss Application Server
  • Enhanced deep discovery with the controller port and controller host

Enhancements in Operations Connector for NetIQ AppManager

NetIQ AppManager is an IT operations management tool. It provides an easy to use console for the IT operations teams to view and monitor the critical servers and applications in their IT environment. Using the NetIQ AppManager the users can view and automate tasks, gather the systems-management data and troubleshoot the issues for their IT resources.

Connector for NetIQ AppManager integrates NetIQ AppManager and Operations Bridge Manager (OBM), therefore, enables you to establish a link between the NetIQ AppManager environment and OBM. This integration helps to gather Events and Topology data from the NetIQ AppManager environment and make it available in OBM.

Connector for NetIQ AppManager introduces the following new features in this release:

  • Event backward synchronization with the ability to propagate AppManager close events in OBM back to NetIQ AppManager. If you close an AppManager event in OBM, the same gets closed in AppManager.

OBM Enhancements

In this release, we have enhanced OBM by implementing the following features:

  • New Command-line Interfaces (CLIs) for Event Suppression Rules:

opr-event-suppression-rule: This CLI can be used to list, enable, disable, and delete event suppression rules. This tool is consistent with SBEC and TBEC rules. See our documentation portal for more information on event suppression rules.

  • Option to enable memory overrides for event management:

This is achieved by updating a new environment variable, OMI_MEMORY_OVERRIDES. This allows the possibility to tune the memory (Java heap) settings for the components of Event Management (as for classic deployment). This is optional and should be used only if you run into memory issues during run time. For more information see the sizing calculator.
