pexels-photo-355663.jpegSpring has sprung! Flowers are blooming, birds are chirping, and new software is being "born" across Micro Focus, including CMS 2018.05, geared towards taking control of your container environment and improving reconciled data quality! Spring is about renewal and new beginnings. Two weeks ago, I wrote about how CMS is more critical than ever in Hybrid IT, and if you need to spring clean and "renew" your mindset of CMS, I encourage you to read about our newest innovations below.

CMS 2018.05 is packed full of new features and enhancements to improve your configuration management system, and to see the full list, I recommend reading the release notes here. Below you'll find a sneak peak of some of our new features that will provide an immediate impact to your daily operations!

Kubernetes Discovery
It's 2018, and containers are taking over the world of IT Ops and DevOps. Micro Focus has embraced this permanent shift with the containerized deployments of our ITOM Platform. But what about the tracking of these containers in your environment? They can be rapidly added or removed in minutes, and most discovery tools cannot keep up with these constantly changing environments. Kubernetes provides the container orchestration layer for automating deployment, scaling, and management of containerized applications.

With the addition of Kubernetes discovery within CMS 2018.05, you can now take control of your container environment and perform configuration management with confidence in these environments. Many discovery tools, if they can discover containers at all, can only discover Docker containers. This limitation provides inventory capabilities without understanding the dependencies behind them. By adding Kubernetes discovery, the full container inventory AND dependencies are now natively discovered, providing the full picture of the container environment.

Reconciliation Analyzer
Any experienced configuration manager will tell you that one of the biggest frustrations of the job is improperly reconciled data from multiple data sources. This results in duplicate CIs and incorrect CI information across an environment. Multiply this across environments with hundreds of thousands or even millions of CIs, and you can be in for at minimum quite a headache, or worse, a loss of revenue or unplanned downtime due to incorrect CI information.

We understand the pain around this long-time industry-wide CMDB issue, and have added a reconciliation analyzer to help understand what happened to CIs when they are inappropriately merged. This provides transparency to a process that was formerly a black box, causing unknown errors during reconciliation. Data from reconciliation analyzer will help customers to improve the quality and coverage of their discovered and integrated data when normalized into UCMDB!Reconciliation Analyzer.JPG

Core Discovery and UCMDB Enhancements

Of course, we are always adding on to the industry-leading breadth and depth of our discovery tool. Upgrades within CMS version 2018.05 include:

  • UCMDB Local Client to quickly connect to UCMDB in a quick, browser-agnostic format
  • Pivotal Cloud Discovery and OpenStack Pike Discovery added
  • Visual Studio Edition now recognized
  • HPNA integration enhancements capturing the "last scene on network" time
  • Automatic integration status reports now sent via e-mail

So there you have it! Go out and enjoy that good weather, fire up the grill...and take a fresh look at our industry-leading CMS with a free trial if it's been a while!
